Put another way, ask the person who earnestly believes in the existence of 'toxic masculinity' to name one trait or quality that is not 'toxic masculinity' and is unique to men.

All social roles have negative aspects to them, but these are contextual in nature, and depending upon the context can be positives, too. The same stoicism that has men going to doctors less often, trying to tough out emotional issues, and generally not being as emotional as women are is also the stoicism that makes them great at all kinds of high stress positions, emergency situations, conflict situations, and situations of loss.

The ideological concept of ‘toxic masculinity' exists within feminist dogma, but that’s not quite the same thing. It's mostly a straw man to use to attack men.

No, it's something that feminists have invented to shame men, ironically one of their most frequent points when it comes to toxic masculinity is that men aren't 'allowed' to express themselves and they try to blame other men for that. However even by their own standards it's actually feminists who are the most responsible for attacking men the moment they try to express themselves and talk about their issues.

Feminists say they want men to speak up, but they really fucking don't. What they really mean when they talk about toxic masculinity is they want men to blame other men for their 'awful' behaviour and call it out.

Yes. If you are toxic because of your masculinity -- here defined as the socially manufactured aspects of being a dude -- you are suffering from toxic dudeness. If you are toxic because of something else, you are suffering from some other kind of toxicity.

The problem is not the idea of toxic masculinity itself, but the way misandrists use it, which is pretty much as a synonym for masculinity itself.

There's toxic humanity that exists on either side of the gender spectrum.

The idea that men can never ask for help or show emotion is toxic.

The idea that a woman has to rely on a man for all her needs is toxic.

There's numerous other examples on either side that can be sited, but it all boils down to toxic behavior that needs help from mental health professionals.

tl;dr there's toxic behavior all over and it's not restricted to gender.

I think it's rebranding of calling someonenasshole...which is not gender specific.

I personally think it would be more effect to just say "Hey, stop being an asshole" rather than "Stop it with your toxic masculinity"...because then you have to explain how whatever behavior is specific to men and how it's toxic for society.

Anybody can be an asshole, and overall people don't like asshole behaviors.

Yes and no. There are some masculine trends that can be harmful, but the whole matter is too poisoned by ideology so it's hard to have level-headed discussions on it.

Yes and No.

Yes it exists in the sense that trying to shoe horn oneself into the current stereotype of a man can be toxic to ones mental health and relationships. How close a man is to the stereotype to begin with will likely dictate the level of stress he feels about himself; his friends/family will also have been self selected to not be injured by his actions if he has been like that most of his adult life. However, anyone trying to fit a stereotype that is counter to their natural self will find it toxic. Women who try to fit into a specific group could reasonably label the attempt and stress that comes with it as toxic femininity. The main reason, in my opinion, why toxic masculinity is well known and toxic femininity isn't is because advertising/society says their is one typical definition of a man (I'm sure we would all describe roughly the same man) whereas there are dozens of definitions of a true woman (Socialite, Business Woman, Traditional Homemaker, Free Spirit, Athlete, Tom Boy, PTA Mom, Milf, etc).

It depends how you look at it.

If you take the "Toxic" in "toxic masculinity" to mean harmful to modern society (the meaning modern feminists use) then no. Toxic masculinity is a myth because the belief that such a simple concept as masculinity that had such a major part in creating modern society and everything we take for granted is preposterous.

If you take the psychiatric definition of "toxic" (that being a person or personality trait that is harmful for the mental/emotional or physical state of another) then, theoretically, it does exist since man-hating feminists lose their damn minds about it. Modern feminism is, in all ways, strongly against the concept of masculinity, which means anyone with feminist leanings is toxic for someone that supports the concept of masculinity and vice versa.

TL;DR masculinity could only be considered toxic to feminists and even then only if you acknowledge that feminism is toxic towards at least 50% of the world's population.
