Note: My friend got dumped by his girlfriend on the phone and has been very depressed and desperate to get back to her while she blocked him on all social medias and cut off all contacts with him and refused to have a proper break up discussion with him which caused him to fall into depression and having suicidal thoughts for the past 3 months because he refuses to move on and can't imagine life without her(she was his first girlfriend ever so he's overwhelmed).

Cut to what this post is all about:

I've been reading all the comments under a question in Quora titled:

My ex-girlfriend tried to commit suicide 3 times after our breakup and won't accept that I am not with her, what can I do?

All the comments were blaming the guy saying it's his fault and he probably handled the situation badly for her to reach this state. Saying she loves him and he also loved her at a point and that she needs him now more than ever. Moreover, he was told to man up and the cause for her not coping with the breakup was because he was probably too cruel with her and stuff and that he is hurting her too much and need to be more humane and put her interests before his.

I was like alright, maybe my friend was right telling me that he cannot move on without having a proper discussion with her and trying to get back together, and I telling my friend that life will not always go the way you want and people are not forced to be nice and do things the good way and that he should let her go for his own sake was too harsh for him.

But *then* I saw a similar question with the sexes reversed:

My boyfriend says he would die if I ever left him, and that's making me feel bad, even though I don't think I love him anymore and I don't want to hurt him. What should I do?

All the goddamn comments were saying that she should dump him asap and that this is very abusive and manipulative behavior and that if he dies then it's his own decision not to move on and his blood is not on her hands and that this is a very toxic relationship and she's gotta get out as soon as possible in addition to cutting off all possible ways of communication because he's practically keeping her hostage by instilling the fear and guilt of ever leaving him in her.

Now threatening to end your life to force your ex to return to you or for you SO to stay with you is extremely shitty and manipulative no matter who does it and it just makes my blood boil. However, what's more infuriating that even this thing has double standards in it.
