Hey, I've been through something similar and I just want to say it sucks, and I'm sorry you're going through this. The stress of not knowing, the costs, the waiting... it's exhausting in a way that's hard to explain to anyone who hasn't lived it.

The most important thing I can tell you is don't put your life on hold waiting for this to end. If you're under anything like the UK system there is never an innocence moment, unless they charge her and even then. If you wait for resolution before living again you'll lose years you won't get back.

You've lost your job, that sucks, grieve it, and then look at work where you're in direct control. Direct sales, markets, construction, your own small business, anything where you don't need to pass through HR and references and systems that will judge you before you get a chance.

The 12k in lawyers hurts but you're still here, still fighting, still have your girlfriend. Focus on what's still standing.

You should also consider counter-suing her for damages.

I had the same thing happen to me with my ex-wife, where she wanted money, basically, so she accused me of sexual assault.

My lawyer just flat out told me to settle with her for 75k. That if it got in front of a jury, they'd believe her and not me.

The fact that this even goes to trial, where it's just he said she said, is obscene. This is something we need to fight for.

Shouldn't be able to destroy someone's life just based on accusations without any form of evidence.

I mean, even the fact that it took her two years to report it is kind of a huge red flag. There should be a statute of limitations where if you don't prosecute within 90 days, tough.

Imagine this were the case with any other crime where someone could physically beat the shit out of you. You wait until you heal and then sue someone with no evidence.

Some say you haven't truly lived until you've been falsely accused of assault by an ex. To this day, my borderline personality ex will post on her social media about how I physically/psychologically/emotionally/sexualy abused her during our marriage ~18 years ago... she will specifically tell people—including our own children—that I even choked her… those words. I never laid an abusive hand on her. Quite the contrary, when I stopped investing attention into the relationship and began to look for the route to divorce in that last year before separating, she—who had been verbally abusing me for years—escalated to physical abuse.

Even after all that, it still just blows my mind that people can just up and lie like that about such serious things out in the open and then sleep soundly at night, never revoking their fabricated stories. And not only “people” but the mother of my children. You often don't realize what these kinds of people are capable of until it's too late.

Read laws, previous similar cases' judgements, prepare well with your lawyer, try to make a list of any question they may throw at you, show utmost control & stoicism in your conduct(no anger, no resentment or frustration, don't even look at her, just talk to the lawyer, judge & if present, jury).

Start searching for job if you haven't got already.

I wish I could give you some positivity but I don't wanna lie to you. It's a coin toss. Whatever happens is not under your control, but your preparation is.

After the verdict, get your life back on track no matter how much trouble/stress/negativity. The world/life will punish you more if you don't.

The world is cold towards men, don't give it the satisfaction to freeze you.
