Who knew imdb hates women? /s

[–]lostapwbm 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Femi-busters:

Production Budget: $154 million.

Marketing Budget: $60 million(?).

Opening Weekend: $45 million.

Meanwhile, at the Secret Life of Pets:

Production Budget: $75 million.

Marketing Budget: ???

Opening Weekend: $102 million.

LMFAO. Sony will be lucky to break even on this one.

yet they have already stated a commitment to a sequel... .

http://screenrant.com/ghostbusters-2016-sequel-no-doubt/

interesting choice to double down on.

I watched it. It wasn't horrible but neither was it something to be excited about after the film. It was average.

[–]WhiteThrone 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

Average ?!? AVERAGE !??

You misogynist piece of shit ! It had WOMEN in lead roles ! It had WOMEN directing, producing, casting ! IT HAD WOMEN EVERYWHERE !

It had to be WONDERFUL ! A MASTERPEICE ! It will set new standards for filmmaking that will be revered for DECADES to come !

/sarcasm

I didn't see the film. But box office totals were in the news. By financial standards, the film stunk on ice. Who knew that insulting your target audience would lead to poor attendance ?

[–]AVAtistar 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

where they really insulting their target audience or were they trying to sell the movie to a different target?

[–]ccosby 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Remakes generally are used as a lazy way to pull in money off an existing property by tapping into the base that liked the old versions being as unoriginal as possible. I'd say by attacking people and saying they are losers in their 40's living in their mom's basements is a good way to piss off the target audience.

Generally speaking they don't want to piss off anyone if they can help it, in this case they made a large part of the people who would have seen it angry. The sad thing is a lot of the people will still end up paying to see it.

Personally I thought it was going to do horrible(not a fan of McCarthy or the director and didn't really know the others). I also thought the car, uniforms, and gear looked really bad(I mean come on how does the gear look worst than the gear from 30 years ago?).

Still I might have ended up seeing it or at least renting it as I do really love the first movie and if anything want to see how bad it is. The cast and director's insults saying I'm sexist and horrible because I didn't think it looked good though are enough for me to avoid it. Personally I wish a lot more people did as well.

[–]bufedad 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I haven't seen it, but my impression is that it's a pretty average movie.

However, it doesn't get to be judged on it's own. It's an average movie in it's own right, but it's a ghostbusters movie, and while I might've seen an average ghostbusters sequel in theaters (hey I saw 2 in theaters), I will not see an average ghostbusters reboot that completely ignores that previous characters and story in theaters (I haven't seen BvS or TMNT in theaters, despite being big fans of those franchises as I don't like what they've done to the characters).

Where's /u/jebberjabber?

He was complaining that the gaming on the bottom end of the IMDB voting would get associated with men's rights activists, but as per today, the gaming on the top end is pretty much equal to it! I guess the notoriety over the weekend around the voting pattern drew in some ideologues from the feminist camp?

[–]JebberJabber 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Maybe as actual moviegoers go to vote they see what has been happening and decide to join in. I dunno.

It is not possible to escape having the vote rigging associated with the MRM. It doesn't normally happen much (I checked), then suddenly there is huge vote rigging on this movie, and everybody is supposed to not notice the MRM were really upset about it? That would have worked fine, except the studio decided to use the MRM as part of its marketing strategy. Hard to escape the public eye now.

[–]Leinadro 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

I wouldnt get to attatched to online site reviews. By this point most have been poisoned by either genuine hate because its a female led movie and/or those trying to hype ot because its a female led movie.

The numbers on ticket sales and box office will be a better indicator.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Look at the breakdown of the voting on IMDB. 11K votes of 1 (clearly ideological) and 9.8K votes for 10 (also clearly ideological). Whatever negative gaming there might have been before the movie hit the theaters has clearly been equaled and, thus, offset by gaming in the other direction.

The clear and visible split between male and female voters on this one is another piece of evidence that the voting has been largely just opposing ideological camps gaming away like fiends.

[–]Leinadro 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I supppse you can say they have equalled out but you really cant definitively say all those 11k and 9.8k votes are attempts at gaming the system.

The well is poisoned on this one.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

You cannot definitively say ALL of those 1 and 10 votes are ideological, but you know most are. The two extremes represent 20k of the 26k votes collected so far. That is by no means a normal distribution around a mean. It's gone bowl shaped rather than bell.

[–]SenorTrumper[S] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

See my comment about IMDB ignoring extremes.

[–]Leinadro 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You cannot definitively say ALL of those 1 and 10 votes are ideological,

Agreed.

but you know most are.

How so?

Honestly its possible that most of them are ideological but for the sake of forming an opinion on a movie I can live without taking IMDB ratings into account.

If IMDB were the only source for reviews and opinions on the movie then Id be more interested in finding a a way to get a definitive amswer on if the system has beem gamed. But since its not its just not worth the effort to me.

[–]SenorTrumper[S] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

see my comment above.

[–]SenorTrumper[S] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

11K votes of 1 (clearly ideological) and 9.8K votes for 10 (also clearly ideological).

LOL Fools!

IMDB explained years ago that it discounts extreme votes.

Never vote 1 or 10.

Make it a 3 or an 8 if you want it to count.

[–]Leinadro 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Oh so IMDB doesnt even use 1s and 10s when figuring up scores? Well damn that does change things a bit.

Edit: Ah I see.

Feminist Ghostbusters Bombs...

Not really:

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/news/?id=4207&p=.htm

Opening weekend was $46 million. Not a blockbuster; but not too bad. Let's see what the figures are like after a few weeks and including international.

I think that the result will be that the studios realise that the "feminist" film angle does not really help very much if at all. But it's not been a total disaster in this instance.
