Other key thing to be aware of is that the most brutal forms of FGM comprise less than 10%. Fully more than half of FGM is no more damaging that MGM. Specifically, the removal of skin from the clitoral hood and/or labia. Or as the cheerleaders if circumcision like to call it, "just a little bit of skin."

Yep, a federal law was passed back in the mid 90's banning FGM. It was struck down in 2018, but then most U.S. states rushed in to fill the vacuum by passing their own FGM laws until the federal government could pass a new bill.

Not a peep from anyone about MGM, of course.

This is the reason why South East Asia still does FGM btw. They see the US perpetuating MGM and use that to justify it.
