The dirty little secret of DV shelters is that most of the women in DV shelters are themselves violent. About two thirds I think. The places essentially act like therapy for violent women. As a result since they started having so many the rate at which women murder their husbands dropped a lot.

No shelters for men; the rate at which husbands murder wives has not decreased.

Still that benefits feminists because now they can say men murder their wives more than vice versa -- which didn't use to be true.

"...when I later opened my refuge for battered women, 62 of the first 100 to come through the door were as abusive as the men they had left."

Erin Pizzey - Daily Mail - 24 September 2009.

Any refuge was better than none, but it concerned me that people working at such places should spout the notion that all women were innocent victims of men's violence. Of the first hundred women who came through our doors sixty-two were as violent as the men they had left behind. I had to face the fact that the males were always going to be blamed for violence within a family and that, ......, false claims would be made against them and that the women would always be believed.

Erin Pizzey (30 June 2011). This Way to the Revolution: A Memoir. Peter Owen Publishers. ISBN 978-0-7206-1521-0.

A 1975 survey of the world’s first shelter for abused women, located in England, found that of the 400 women questioned, 82.5 percent participated in a mutually violent relationship. A different survey of 100 women at this same shelter found that 62 percent were violence prone and that they were both the victims and the perpetrators of regular acts of violence. Some were more violent than the men they were seeking shelter from, according to the shelter’s founder, Erin Pizzey.

Another dirty little secret is that we'll write off anything as "DV" to get numbers for grants. A lot of people who have mental illnesses and imagine or feign abuse get in. This includes people with stories such as "I was raped a year ago. This isn't directly related to why I'm homeless now, I've failed to pay my bills, but I need to live there now." or even people believing they're victims of international conspiracies and "Famous celebrities are stalking me." People who it's irresponsible not to refer to mental health wards for anti-psych meds instead of just once a week counseling.

There's all kinds of ridiculous mindgames and emotional abuse the women in the shelters continue to put the partners they're supposedly escaping at the shelter through while present, including using children as pawns for money and favors such as rides or cigarettes, directing them to the social media profiles of their new boyfriends and trying to stir up "let's you and him fight" drama, the works.

I work in one, and I stay because it's the best position to be in to advocate for resources for men and boys. Our director is a male too so maybe that's why they're slightly more open to dissent than I suspect other feminist institutions would be--I can't get them to abandon the Duluth model, because our main funding agency's materials are packed to the gills with it, but I can get deals with hotels for grants for emergency overnight shelter for men, for food/childcare supplies to be made available to them, etc. It's precisely the BS of the DV complex that drove me to Men's Rights.

What? Are you saying male victims of domestic violence are murderous? I don't think I am.

[–]Halafax 9 points10 points11 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think he saying that getting violent >people< out of combative homes lowers the rate of homicide. It doesn't fix anyone, it just lowers the chance of a violent person acting on their impulse.

Which makes sense. Most domestic violence is bi-directional.

But even if men had appropriate shelters to go to, it's not the same situation. A father that flees a violent home with his kids knows that he's got little chance of protecting his kids over the long term.

No I'm saying most of the people who end up in DV shelters are perps. There are some people there who are just innocent victims but the majority are not. So in effect these shelters are a service to the violent partners. It wasn't planned that way nor is it widely known, but there it is.

No I'm saying most of the people who end up in DV shelters are perps.

Most violent relationships are mutually violent, hence most victims are also perps.

It's pretty obvious who the actual abuser was in all this.

Vile sack of dirt. Walking filth. Destroy by fire.

[–]mwobuddy 6 points7 points8 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yeah, because they'll claim she's mentally ill and something in her past made her bad.

[–]Capitalsman 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Isn't it funny that feminists view "boys will be boys" as an outrageous sin like you called a 90 year old woman a miserable cunt, but are silent about the phrase "hell hath no fury like a woman scorned" which states women are violent and viciously abusive and dangerous?

[–]cottonthread 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I'm sure someone's got angry at that somewhere. Pretty much anything you can think of, someone somewhere has got offended at.

That said the two phrases aren't really opposites. The second one implies she has a reason other than gender.

[–]Capitalsman 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The second one implies she made up a reason to be so mad or is mad about something, and because she's a woman it's alright or they shouldn't have done what caused her to do what she did. Which is similar to "what did you expect, he's a boy and boys rough house" but hell hath no has more severe circumstances.
