Your opponent is assuming that by virtue of its existence, the tone and informative value /r/feminism is equal to that of /r/mensrights, or in other words, begging the question - basing his argument on the assumption that his opinion is correct.

One glaring difference between the two subreddits is in the sidebar. /r/Mensrights has an FAQ and links to essays, articles, blogs, and statistics on the topic of men's issues, giving the first-time visitor and the veteran participant alike the ability to refer to existing information related to the movement. The mod policy is clear, concise, and reasonably limited.

/r/feminism has "Discussions in this subreddit will assume the validity of feminism's existence and the necessity of its continued existence," stated in the midst of a statement of purpose and posting rule set which offers nothing but accusation and threats to gag any statement of dissent.

Without even getting into the posts, the difference is clear - /r/feminism is intended as a monologue of self-validation. /r/mensrights is a discussion. Dissenting viewpoints are allowed here. They receive vehement disagreement, the manner of which depends on how well thought out and articulate the detractor states his or her case, but they do not get arbitrarily shut down, as in /r/feminism.

Tell them the truth. That feminism doesn't attempt to address injustices against men, and in fact often times promotes them, as anything bad for men must be in contrast good for women. This flawed ideology isn't a base ideal in MRM. We want gender equality. Personally on the odd incident that I encounter a misogynist male spouting anti-woman hatred in here, I try to let them know that is not appropriate and we don't need to demonize women in the name of equality, for if we did that would make us demons.

Take some examples back to him.

Depends. What is he doing by asking you to go to rFem?

Is he challenging you to find the same supporting evidence as in rMR on rFem? Is he saying if you can ask him to go on rMR for evidence that supports you, he can ask you to go to rFem for evidence to support him? Is he saying rMR isn't a valid source of information because of perceived bias? And so on and so forth.

[You can also try something like throwing an accusation of association fallacy at him for equating rFem to rMR, but I'm not sure that's productive or correct depending on context.]

People have the power to hold stupid, harmful beliefs. People also have the power to not debate you, and not change their hateful beliefs.

If you seek to change people's minds, you'll have to go the extra distance. For example, you might record links to your favourite statistics so you can quickly quote them in your discussions. This might sound like a lot of work -- and it is -- but fortunately you'll keep coming up against the same idiotic ideas over, and over, and over again. So your references will get a lot of mileage.

I gave him a few articles and then suggested he take a look at /r/mensrights to see other examples. His immediate reaction was "Well I can tell you to go over to /r/feminism then, it is the exact same thing."

He's right.

This is a gateway, not a content producer. You would do well to familiarize yourself with the various main issues of the MRM, and the websites that tackle each in turn...for example COTWA for rape issues, Toysoldier for child abuse, Shrink4Men for mental health issues, and yes, Game sites for 'romantic' issues (like my personal faves right now Dalrock and/or Roissy/Heartiste).

This reddit is no different in function or intent than r/feminism.

The message each movement conveys, though, is VERY different.
