This is why there needs to be two very separate and distinct people in dealing with rape cases. Person 1 needs to solely be there for the victim and be trained in trauma cases and what to do in these situations. This person has no power to prosecute or gather evidence, their sole reason for existing is to be sympathetic. Person 2 is the police and it is their job to find the facts and serve justice. So they do all the "mean" things like try and get details while evidence is gathered to see if there is enough to go to trial.

I very much like that the top commenter (that I assume is a cop) used gender-neutral examples of details from various scenarios of both a man and a woman getting raped. Progress!

This is an area in which the government really needs to get a grip on some areas of the media.

Women are told every day by magazines, TV shows, blogs and newspapers that rape is the worst thing that can happen to anyone and anyone who rapes is worse than satan.

This is taken to such an extreme that news outlets routinely refer to rape accusers as "victims" and sometimes even refer to the accused as "rapist". They back this with a torrent of fake rape statistics showing that hardly any rapists are ever punished and accusing all men of being complicit in rape. Best of all those outlets frame questioning an accuser or asking them to participate in a trial as "revictimising them".

Is it really any wonder that a woman accusing someone of rape is horrified when her account is questioned?

This seems very different from the way feminists describe the ordeal.

Where is the screaming "you deserved it you lying slut, look at how you're dressed" line?
