I'm not a Muslim but I hear a lot of information spoken about Islam that is not correct. As for what Islam is in the world today, varies from country to country. I hear a lot of people say that Islam is a "patriarchy" and from what I understand about the Muslim religion, no this isn't correct. It certainly isn't correct when based on the Quran.

Is Islam stupid? In my opinion yes it is, so is Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism and every religion, all religions have a few good verses and a few bad verses, Islam is the same in my opinion. Is it barbaric in certain ways? Yes it is. Does it harm human rights? Yes it does. Is it a patriarchy though? No it isn't. Islam violates the rights of men and women, even in a sexual sense. In some other ways it also protects the rights of men and women.

Quran 24:3] The adulteress and the adulterer (or the fornicatress and the fornicator) — flog each one of them with a hundred stripes

“If a man commits adultery with his neighbour's wife, both the adulterer and the adulteress shall be put to death.” ( Lev. 20:10)

See? It is an equal punishment for the man and the woman. It shouldn't really be beating anyone for adultery or killing them in my opinion but at least it's equal. It's a human rights violation on a whole not just a women's rights violation, at least when the Quran is actually followed. A patriarchy does not publicly beat men for having sex. Just because it also happens to publicly beat women for the same act doesn't make it a patriarchy. Men and women are put to death for murder, an equal punishment for both, some may say the death penalty is wrong, but at least it's an equal punishment. Homosexual men and women are often put to death, but the Quran doesn't even mention lesbians, only gay males. Therefore its technically more anti male than female in that specific sense.

My point here being that yes women's rights are violated by Islam but mens rights are also violated by it.
