If I remember correctly, it's been exposed already that the "gender equality index" only measures discrimination against women. Funny enough to the contrary of western belief, the index also rates China as a pretty equal country by their standards despite the common belief that its anti-women due to the baby restrictions.

I’m going to be honest I dont see how the baby restrictions can be ‘anti woman’ I completely agree with the one child rule and think that it could definitely help things like climate change

China canned the One Child Policy a few years ago.

If the population drops too quickly it puts massive strain on the entire economy. Overpopulation is not a problem that can be solved quickly. Knowing this I long wondered why China had implemented such a policy rather than trying to cap the birthrate at something sane like 1.8.

Eventually I realised they knew they were never going to be 100% successful. Officially they were aiming for a birthrate of 1.0 but they knew they'd never actually get there.

In the end they were too successful and left the policy going for a few years too long and now they are paying the price.

It's because the baby restrictions, from what I remember, were supposed to be only one girl per family, it wasn't specifically "one child", but I could be wrong, it's been a good while since I've actually looked into Chinese laws.

You think it’s right that a government can tell their citizens you can’t have more than one baby?Do you know how much cover ups families in China did just to say they have one child, going as far as killing baby girls because they wanted a boy instead?

[–]Hollowhowler100 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I mean I’m sure the reverse is also true, and I’ve heard that you are able to put people up for adoption and still have a child after a certain period,so those who kill there child are amoral lunatics but it apparently doesn’t happen as much as you think

Gender Equal means "Equality only when it benefits women"

[–]BreakinLiberty 27 points28 points29 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Equalit only means the good office (easy) jobs while men still have to work in everything else that literally holds the infrastructure together

[–]Doyle_Trekka 10 points11 points12 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Funny how in my country women have been forced into it just a couple of years now. And national news show how unfair it is for them. Cause men in my country have had all the issues they list since 1953, and they news wont mentioning it.

And since the time of vikings men in out country have been drafted without choice.

I believe that women being forced into duty may lead to consription being abolished. Hopefully for both genders.

Finland actually had a vote to scrap it and surprise surprise most women voted to keep it and most men voted against it but it was kept, if men shouldn’t have an opinion on abortion than women should not be allowed an opinion on men being forced to die in war

[–]gratis_eekhoorn 9 points10 points11 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think what you mentioned happened in Switzerland not Finland.

[–]Rybentor 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

There has never been such a vote in Finland.

[–]nacho-chonky 8 points9 points10 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Ah ya I got it backwards, just looked it up they voted to add women to the military service

[–]itchyotcthy 11 points12 points13 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

We just need to convince men that it is not 'their' war but the politicians that want war...

[–]Nathaniel66 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Few years ago there was a huge shitstorm when a high rank male officer was asked what does he think about women in military. It went more or less like this:

- there are plenty of positions women can take, like nurse/ doctor, communnication operators and so on

-but what about regular soldiers, operating in field?

- it's a bad idea

- this is discrimination!

- women are not physically fit. If i get injured on the battlefield i want my soldiers to carry me out, women can't do that

Oh the shitstorm in press was huge and as far as i remember, this officer had huge problems.

[–]Hollowhowler100 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

‘Gender equal’ is a fancy term for there are either more or an equal amount of women in government

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Japanese Empire annexed Korea in 1910. They didn't give Koreans voting rights. However, they decided to conscript Korean men in 1945 (they lost the war a few months later, so this decision was pointless), and they gave voting rights to Korean men (since the Japanese Imperial government considered them "real citizens" from that point). Men should be given exclusive voting rights if only men are to be drafted.

[–]CaptBerlin 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Strang and indapandant wahmen avoiding conscription is male privilege.

[–]Starmind0 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Men getting drafted against their will, treated like sub humans, and dying in wars? Who cares! We only whine when a woman can't vote...can you imagine the INHUMANITY of that..?!

Yours truly, Society

[–]Rockbottom503 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

America, land of the supposedly free, still does technically does this too. Requiring all males to register for the draft means only men can be conscripted.

[–]EpicHajsownik 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Finland Prime Minister declared feminist even says: We should keep the conscription mandatory for men, to keep our country strong (so easy to say when youre not drafted), and to fight for equity (yes she said that this will strenghen the equity im not joking)

And that we should fight with the inequality in the military by making women (voluntary of course) have an easier way of getting into it.

Good that mandatory conscription is okay.

Additionaly they even have another form of slavery: Nearly one year of working for free because yes.

Of course they won't make women do that free job. Idk why forcing men for this work is okay, but forcing women isnt okay and no one should that. Sadly no one cares about men so much that the can be forced for working for free in the middle of Europe.

Of course by feminist

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I have heard that Sweden now puts women under a draft too. Isreal is also very popular for conscripting women.

[–]EpicHajsownik 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Still Its only Sweden which is an anti-man country and conscription wont fix it.

Israel makes woman lose 2 years and man 3 years so its not equal

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes, as far as I know, the only European leader who refused to be called a feminist is Angela Merkel. She said she's not a feminist and she likes to cook for her husband. Sweden, Finland, Norway, England (Boris declared himself a feminist), France... almost all the European leaders are pro-feminism.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm a conservative, and I honestly think women are not suited to be soldiers (physically and mentally). However, traditional men had exclusive voting rights since they were drafted. If men have exclusive voting rights, I can agree with the male only draft.

[–]thepmanfrommars 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

it should be conscription for all or no conscription. forcing people to serve in a military if they don't want to generally doesn't develop a good soldier anyways.

[–]Mike19K 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I'm Finnish and the worst part about this is that if you are a man and you refuse to perform both military and civil service, you will be put to a prison for 173 days without parole.

[–]AccompliceToACause 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I am from Finland too and it really sucks, I will have to make a decision in less than a year and I'm really angry and depressed that no one seems to care about this, but it is one of the worst forms of sexism that could exist. Have you already gone through military/civil service/prison, and if so, which did you choose?

[–]rostyclav999 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Ah, my homeland Ukraine, a country which talks about canceling a conscription for over 13 years now, but have done 0 progress in that

[–]DarkLaplander 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I support the conscription system, but I think it should apply also to women.
