Men need compassion too

I think this sub could be used to cultivate more compassion for men. At least, more than it has been.

While anger is a great emotion for getting things done in many cases, it is also important to get to the emotions under the anger.

I know that in the broader culture it isn't particularly wise usually to go with those other emotions. But this platform does allow that risk taking by men.

I'd love to see more of the guys that are expressing anger on this sub say something like this. "I'm furious that men are treated more harshly than women in almost every case. It leaves me fearful of the future for myself and sad that I don't feel men I know will be given a fair go".

It's important to know about those underlying emotions. Otherwise you are trapped in anger and can be harmed by it.

Men aren’t women. Men can’t afford to sulk and yearn for pity. Men must be strong leaders. Let’s see if people take you as a man serious in a business setting if you start crying after being yelled at by a superior

I think as as society we have become numb to men's suffering due to our history with wars. For all of human history, we've been forced to send our men to die in battle, and as a coping mechanism, we've learned to numb ourselves to men's suffering. Just think about it - we all grow up hearing about the tens of millions of men dead in battle during the 20th century. How do people deal with it? Either you can let yourself feel the anxiety and horror these facts evoke in you, or, you can learn to not care about men's suffering. I think that this is what has happened on a collective scale, and the side-effect is that we don't take the time to care for our men, because then we would have to awaken to the fact that men are human, and thus, face the horror of what we have been doing to them throughout history. Our unwillingness to empathize with men's suffering is how we cope with the brutal facts of war.
