I was out to dinner with a group of peers to discuss our college clubs finances. Do not ask how we worked around to the topic of feminism, but we did. I, a typical white male liberal arts college student, was suddenly accosted by someone who I would call a friend for my opinions and certain actions that I perform in a dating scenario. Actions I placed under the umbrella of "chivalry". Said actions, include but are not limited to: paying for a date (always), opening any door for one's significant other, carrying something heavy for a significant other, walking on the outside of the sidewalk, etc. I was informed, rather violently, that these classical niceties are in point fact belittling women and oppressing them. She continued to say that because I open doors for women and would carry a heavy package for one extrapolates into some woman not getting a job because she is in point of fact a woman.

While I do not have an apparent question, I'm curious to see if other people have experienced something similar to this. I don't feel any of those actions relate, at all, to a man getting a job over a woman. They are simply remnants of chivalry, while archaic, have evolved into the actions of the modern gentleman.
