Let's face it opting out will have severe social, economic & personal consequences.

So does "opting in." The whole point of "opting out" is when the repercussions of "opting in" are far worse still, or else there wouldn't be any point. For some people the line is a little fuzzy on where the cost/benefits analysis shifts, but the point of raising awareness on this is that a great number of men don't seem to think about it at all. Even if they choose to opt in, seeing some men advocate for MGTOW could quite possibly be doing them a favor and, in the long run, may do a lot to free men of gender role expectations. In the long run this is a positive thing and I support those who do it even though I don't.

I am MGHOW, these are my thoughts.

Motivation, basically if sex is no longer the prime motivator what will be? What can replace the incredibly powerful motivator of being sex driven? Or the powerful motivator of providing for kids? Can we find value in our lives outside of providing for our wife and kids?

I still have sex, however I make sure I take precautions to avoid conception. I will not marry, co-habit or fall into the trap of common law marriage.

My motivator to retain a job is to maintain my house, my car, to have discretionary spending money and to put some away for my eventual retirement. I consider living a comfortable and financially secure life a strong motivator. I have worked in several types of IT jobs and I have now chosen one that is an acceptable balance (to me) of income and stress. I have chosen lifestyle over high-pressure & maximum pay.

Social group consequences: not many in your social group will understand you for opting out of marriage. This could potentially ruin relationships with family and friends.

My social circles include the deliriously happily married (20+ years), recently divorced and disillusioned, single, dating, co-habiting and engaged to be married. My parents goals for me and my siblings was to have the opportunity to attend University if we wished, so in my country that means finishing grades 11 & 12 and gaining a ranking sufficient to gain entrance to the degree of our choosing. After that we were adults and our life is our own.

The only difference with MGTOW compared to any other man is we don't want marriage; it is not a defining aspect of our lives.

The way I see it is that MGTOW is an exit, but it's up to you to find your destination. To me MGTOW means doing what I want regardless of what women and society want which opens up a plethora of "destinations."

MGTOW isn't really a "be-all, end-all." It's a path to follow. The road of life has many paths, and viewed through MGTOW the paths available to you spring up where you didn't think they were.

The movie "28 Days Later" accurately depicted the need for a purpose to live. The leader of the "military group" said his men were desperate and had no reason to continue fighting the zombies because there was no reward other than survival to survive (cyclical purpose). He said they were on the brink of suicide. The leader set up a recording to lure other people to their fortification and promised them women. The introduction of women into the scenario gave them purpose of having a family, raising children, and having someone that depended on them for survival (survive for replication). Unfortunately, they were impatient and tried to force themselves onto the women who subsequently rejected the men. If they had given the women time to acquiesce to the men and their new role as true women (rather than their modern feminist lifestyle in the modern world), things would have been quite different.

tldr; No man is an island.
