I am an MRA. I speak up on campus against feminists who are misandrists and against injustices I see. I want to see a better world for my nephew, my much younger brother etc. I see discrimination and it bothers me. Double standards bother me. And, feminism ceased being about equality a long time ago. Sure, there are things that need improvement, but, the eqyality pendulum has swung too far from center, giving women the advantage.

I can't be MGTOW. I'm a woman, and very happily married to a great man. I also have seen a lot of anger and hatred that I don't like from MGTOW. Not all women are bad. Not all women are out to get men. It feels like there is a kernel of extremism in there and I am uncomfortable with it.

MRA and MGTOW are very seperate things but in no way mutually exclusive. I would guess there is a lot or overlap.

I would also guess that, like you, there is probably a lot of people who wouldn't identify as either but are sympathetic to both.

I don't consider myself an MRA or a MGTOW.

I haven't seen anything in MGTOW that is worthwhile to me. A lot of it seems unnecessarily hostile to women, and that's really not my jam. I am "going my own way" inasmuch as I do not intend to ever marry or have children, and I do as I please regardless of whether that's a thing men are "supposed to" do, but those are not something for which I want support or, it seems, the primary focus of MGTOW. Kind of like when I used to be in an atheist group in college that quickly disbanded... it's hard to be interested in a collective defined by something you don't do.

I'm not an MRA for many of the same reasons I'm not a feminist. I am uninterested in prioritizing one sex or segment of the population over another. Each has their own unique struggles and achievements, and each has something that they contribute to the whole and can learn from the whole. But none is better than the other. I think it is appropriate to focus on a particular individual interest (I tend toward men's stuff because I am a man, and because I have been personally hurt quite a lot by people using feminism as a justification) but always keeping in mind that all people deserve the same dignity and human rights.

I know that the label "MRA" is toxic these days, kind of like the label "feminist". I still consider myself an MRA, although I am not heavy on the activism.

MGTOW, to me, is a completely different way of responding to these issues. MRAs are like environmentalists who fight to get companies to reduce pollution. MGTOW are like environmentalists who say "f*** it" and go and live off the grid and disconnect themselves from society.

I feel most MGTOW are MRAs but not all MRAs are MGTOWs. I'm certainly not.

I encourage you to read through each subreddit to come to your own conclusion.

/r/theredpill is for self-improvement as a sexual strategy for men that have been unsuccessful with women. It teaches concepts and encourages trial and error to perfect one's own strategy.

/r/MGTOW takes it a bit further by removing the ideas of self-betterment as a sexual strategy and instead adopting the ideals for self-betterment's sake eschewing the pursuit of women but not necessacarily rejecting them outright.

Both groups have a lot of overlap as well as some dichotic differences and are reached when men have become frustrated with their situation. Naturally new members vent their frustration and have in-jokes as they've formed a comraderie in a brother-in-arms fashion. What's more, these are the main two places where men are able to vent their frustration so to a casual observer it is easy to mistake as hateful. The containment boards having to be such a place is evidence of the overwhelming shunning and chastisement that men face if they dare attempt to vocalize their issues.

/r/mensrights is the third arm that attempts to bring the most palpatablie issues from both sides and express them in the most feminist friendly way so as to be heard and even they are demonized.

Men are trampeled over and our natural inclination to protect women has been accosted for the sake of feminism. White knights in law enforcement, justice system and lawmakers bend over backwards to supplicate them to make up for the sins of the father.

It's never enough, it appears until a matriarchy is formed which would be maintained by white knights acting as their strongarm to keep men in line and even their positions can be reversed at the mere word of a woman. It's fucking crazy and alarming.
