Hey guys. So I was trying to look up the 1 in 4 men are rapists, so i did a cross check with my own campus crime stats. These stats get posted every year at the end of the fall semester. Anyways,my univeristy has 40000 students, of which 5 were raped in a whole year(this includes incest, statutory rape, forced fondling, and forced rape). This would put my schools rape stats at .01% rapes per year. Not only that, this is assuming only 12% come forward. If we extrapolate the extra 88%, we get .1%. Neither of these numbers in any way come remotely close to the Mary Koss 1 in 4 rape stat. My question is, why is it i can easily refute this argument(at least in the scope of my university) using Math quite easily, yet people dont seem to understand that basic logic is enough to completely refute the argument in the first place? Seriously some basic math and percentages is all you really need. How can people be so stupid to not stop and think for a second that the numbers they give are grossly inflated?
