If you think about it, they're all victims of an out-of-control legal system.

These were people who enjoyed each other, and now that's gone, and everyone local knows it. The "victim" will now be subtly shamed into re-framing what happened as victimization. He will have to rationalize what he knows to be true about them, and what others are saying about them. It's going to be painful. But it'll keep the therapists employed.

Later, if a woman accuses him of raping her, because she regrets having sex with him, will he not defend himself, having internalized the idea that sex with him is dangerous? Will he not defend himself, having accepted the idea that rape and sexual assault can be anything anyone wants it to be? Will he not defend himself, having seen firsthand that in sex cases, the court and public both begin with a conclusion, and no testimony from him can change it?

Nobody ever puts themselves in the position of the "victim". But it's something we ought to be thinking about.
