That's not a direct quote from Paul Elam, that's a blatantly out of context quote, these are activist spammers. If what the OP says is true and the thread was indeed very quickly filled with these sorts of comments that is just them trying to take control of the narrative and scare people away using the tactics they always have to defame MRAs and anyone who disagrees with feminist ideology.

I've seen this behaviour when the MRA sub get upvotes of more than say 1000, immediately you see retards jumping in who haven't even read the subreddit or bothered to check the context of the post trying to attack MRAs and calling anyone who posts here losers etc. they're not there for conversation and are just looking to spam.

What's hilarious is you get people who admit they were at first here to try and make fun of the sub but then they quickly realise the place is actually filled with quite serious people who are dealing with some real issues instead of what they originally though.

The fact that they'd get so hung up over a now rather old documentary I think demonstrates they're actually getting quite desperate, also, you ask anyone, it wasn't bankrolled by 'just' MRAs. They're leaving out the fact that she originally approached feminists and they completely ditched her because she wouldn't do a smear piece for them the way they're attacking her even now.

To be fair, Paul Elam does seem to enjoy saying controversial things. But on the other hand, you could overfill the Titanic to the point of sinking with all the controversial things that have been said by leaders in the feminist movement over the decades, so I am not sure how they are able to justify not applying the same standards to their own movement. Especially when Warren Farrell is the other main MRA featured in the film, and he has a long history of not trying to say controversial things.

They are obviously counting on the theory that the people reading that post won't bother to do their own research. Hopefully our fellow Redditors there will follow the advice contained in this historic quote:
