To my knowledge, this 'fact' doesn't come from anywhere. The only behaviour we have is 'suicidal behaviour', and it also does not distinguish the individuals from the amount of attempts, i.e. a woman who has 'attempted suicide' like fifty times will have those attempts counted under suicidal behaviour.

Privilege is the lack of oppression. Per trait, that's binary. Either you have privilege based on your gender or you don't. Either you have privilege based on your race or you don't.

What a complete load of bullshit. Interesting to see it put that starkly though. I'd say that sexual orientation or race or religion or class could produce some stark inequalities and possibly privileges.

I'd simply say that sex - male/female - is different. Because it's biological and the starkest division of the human race, and because sexual dimorphism is so obviously a fact (men and women, generally, like and do different things), then it's impossible to blithely say that men have privilege - always and in every situation - and women do not have privilege - always and in every situation.

I work in Africa a lot for my work. In and out of airports in these countries you meet a lot of interesting people that you start conversations with. One time waiting for some delayed flight to head back home I ended up talking with a woman from UNDP about the country we were in, the work we did, our frustrations and observations. One thing she said remains with me to this day - that many kids in that country were permanently disadvantaged because they didn't get sufficient nutrition to be able to concentrate and think at school, and to grow their bodies and brains.

And I remember this part very clearly - that for her equality was not a discussion about privilege, but rather about ensuring equality of opportunity for every child regardless of where they were born an who they were. That all children have equal opportunity to reach their full potential through the provision of basic human needs, of rights protected by law and the tools through education to flourish.

I often think of that conversation when I am feeling sorry for myself and reflect that having been born in a developed nation, and fed clothed and educated gave me a start in life that many others are denied simply through the lottery of birth.

I suppose what I want to say is: I think a lot of this discussion is noise. Our focus should remain on providing equality of opportunity for all regardless of gender, race, wealth and where they were born.

Using the term "privileges" interchangeable with advantages in a feminist space is not recommendable, because that's not how it's defined. Again, this doesn't make me believe that you have really understood the definition.

I'd be surprised if anyone understood the feminist definition, given that it's so nebulous in the first place, and seems to change whenever someone successfully challenges it. I like to think I'm an intelligent person, yet nobody has been able to explain feminist "privilege" in a way that doesn't seem completely asinine. As such, I'll use the dictionary definition, thank you very much. :)

Again, you don't understand the concept of privilege if you think you can quantify it.

As far as I can tell, the feminist definition of privilege can be neither quantified nor qualified, and therefore it's useful for little more than hyperbole.

I do think we occasionally make the mistake of blaming some things on feminism that are really more to blame on traditionalism. Both are gynocentric and hostile to men, in my opinion, it's just that only one is overtly hostile.

However, although feminism can be spared criticism in some areas, they cannot be given ANY praise when it comes to the plight of men. They deserve criticism of the hypocrisy of claiming to fight for "gender equality" when really they only care about one side of it.

So while we can accept that traditionalism (or "patriarchy", as they'd call it) deserves some blame, we can NEVER let them get away with classing feminism as an equality movement, and certainly never accept shit like "feminism is working on men's problems too". They've proven for decades that men's problems will get lip-service at best, or will be willfully made worse if it means improving things for women.

One thing we should also do is point to what "matriarchy" looks like... as I class it, matriarchies are places where women are the majority head-of-household and the majority of civil servants. Urban black communities come to mind, and it shows "matriarchy" to be the most dangerous of all possible structures, given that these communities lag woefully behind in every metric.
