In the beginning, human societies were matriarchal for a simple reason: man by nature is polygamous, he could have 100 children in a year (figurative language), while woman is monogamous since she can only have one child in a year. Woman, therefore, kept the secret of who was the father of her child.

In this condition, men and women had the same duties as they hunted and gathered. When we invented the plow, so the beginning of the predominance of agriculture, man was the only one who could use it since the plow is a heavy tool, not accessible to women.

Hence, the woman became dependent on the man's labor, and the man decided to "blackmail" her by requiring her to be alone with him, since he did not want to raise and feed someone else's child, he wanted to be sure that child was his own.

Thus monogamous marriage was born, something absolutely unnatural. Monogamy in relationships is bad for both because the man is sexually frustrated, so he turns to prostitutes, and meanwhile the prostitutes live a life of misery and humiliation.

Monogamous marriage is also a problem because the feeling of love, which is nothing more than a fortuitous convergence of sexual and sentimental impulse, lasts very little, while the marriage union, by convention, can last much longer, forcing both parties to persevere in a burlesque farce.

So I would say that no, there is no patriarchy (there has to be a patriarch), but certainly there are mutually disadvantageous conventions that frustrate both sexes. If we went back to living naturally and freely, according to nature, the latter would hurt us less. But that would mean choosing freedom over comfort, and man is a lazy animal.
