A fifth student said he was initially reluctant to engage in sexual acts with the teacher but she told him she 'might stop altering his school records for cutting class, attendance, and passing', the court papers state.

That's rape. This is the textbook example of why these laws exist.

This pedophile and her pathetic excuses better end up going away for a long, long time.

In response to Smith's statement, Essex County Assistant Prosecutor Gina Iosim, who is handling the case, said the following in a statement: "All too often victims of sexual abuse are demonized by their abusers. It takes a tremendous amount of courage for a victim, especially a juvenile victim, to come forward knowing the stigma some in society place on victims of sexual abuse. We continue to prepare for trial so our juvenile victims may find the justice they are seeking."

The prosecutor is a hero though.

Not only that but she wasnt exactly defensless against the kid who was "aggressively" hesitant.

So if this woman has damaged reasoning, impulse control and that... Is is going to be a fit mother for her two children? They seem at risk if you ask me.

Yeah, they might be raping her withing the hour. Better call someone and get her to safety. s/

If it was a male teacher I doubt they would even consider these arguments in the press.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points10 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Nope. They wouldn't need a trial, they'd just hang him now.

"It wasn't him, it was his brain!"

Things you will never, ever, see written about a man on trial.

True!

If you have a condition that limits your impulse ability, teaching is not the correct profession to pursue.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Right?

The absurdity of thinking that is a line of work to peruse. Then having her own kids as well.....

I was scrolling through the thing to finally find the line where it states she won't be allowed to keep teaching. My jaw dropped so hard it's in China.

This consistently irritates me about these claims that women are not responsible for their own actions. If they are not in control of their actions then they present a future risk and should not be put in a position where they can do harm to others. The courts frequently accept that a woman is a danger to others and then refuse to protect people from that woman. If somebody puts her back in that job they are responsible for the harm she does, because they know she can't stop herself and they allow her do it anyway.

Male Sex-Offender: Mr. Judge! Mr. Judge! I can't be held responsible for fucking the kids! I've got a brain disorder!

Dufault's attorney, Timothy Smith, said she suffers from "frontal lobe syndrome," a condition that experts have said is associated with socially inappropriate behavior and the inability to control impulses [...] Dufault – a single mother of two young sons – is accused of engaging in sexual activity with the six students on multiple occasions between 2013 and 2014, prosecutors said.

She should have her kids taken from her and put in care, in that case. If she's unable to control here impulses and engages in socially inappropriate behavior to the extent that she actually fellated one of her students (in a car, no less, so she was clearly too impaired to even attempt to hide her pedophilic behaviour behind closed doors) whilst allowing herself to be filmed, she's presumably not competent for childcare.

she suffers from "frontal lobe syndrome," a condition that experts have said is associated with socially inappropriate behavior and the inability to control impulses, among other symptoms

Let's assume for a moment that she does suffer from this disorder. How was she able to survive her own adolescence and secondary school education? How was she able to deal with the countless social situations while in college? Perhaps most importantly, How did she qualify for her teaching license with her mental disorder?
Edit: I need to remember to always read the whole article before commenting.

I could ask the same with this title. Why give such a shitty title? It says nothing about the linked content. Please learn to give better titles if you plan to submit to anywhere, but even more so if you plan to submit to more serious subs.

[–]vasyo -3 points-2 points-1 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

My first thought was to read the entire article to make sure I understand the profound nature of this social issue. However given the exceptionally descriptive title you've given I feel it would be redundant.
