Need help and What is your perspective? I am a normal employee in a company who has the right to enquire all the hiring and firing. Not a HR. I have the authority to advocate for other colleagues. I recieved a firing notice for one if the employee. He was a accused of harrasment.
This male colleague has been writing romantic messages to a female colleague of his, who is reporting to him, only when needed. The female work had left the company and the country before raising the complaint. In her email she mentioned the male workers behavior as unnecessary attention and attached copy of screenshots where only the male works text shows up. Her response to it was missing. Finally one of the screenshots show the female worker asking him to treat her as colleague during the working hours and may be we can hang out for dinner as friends.
Initially my view was the male colleague has crossed the line and put pressure on her. But after further detailed review I can see the texts from male colleague was spread apart by few months. And female colleagues response was missing. This made me think something was fishy. HR had requested to fire the male colleague sighting these texts.
I demanded hr that they need to revisit the issue, investigate both parties since the evidence presented were lacking consistency. Firing the male employee for this issue without enquire Was extreme I my view. I had to come outand call it. I mentioned that “if there is no enquiry" "It could be interpreted as, motivated by gender bias or age bias". So please enquire and find the truth.
I was still on the fence and don't know who is trying to abuse whom. Because there was no clear evidence.
HR went crazy. She fired the male employee and wants to sue him and the same time called me as backward and antiquated for requesting enquire and pointing out there could be alternate narratives. I questioning the female workers intentions and evidences is in and of itself a abusive behavior in her view.
Later she (HR) made some comments, which where rooted in misandry. Like old white guys, etc.
(FYI: they can't fire me easily) Was I right calling the HR out? Should I fill a complaint against her for gender discrimination?
