Wrong again, but men are overwhelmingly CHARGED as the perpetrators of violence, which is where this piece of work is probably getting her information. I know I was arrested with a black eye.... and had a gun in my face from officer friendly because I was restraining her (in a much kinder way than I would have been restrained) when they finally arrived.

Yes, she was arrested too. There was another adult there to witness her insanity. Difference is, I was the one who saw bars that night. She was arrested on paper, but never put in cuffs.

Is it really surprising? That is what we are told time and time again. If you haven't seen data to the contrary, which usually requires some kind of exposure to the MRM, it is easy to believe it. This is just an opinion piece, so it is not really this person's responsibility to be knowledgeable on the subject. It is when people who are a position of power makes these claims that it is a real problem.

You can thank Julia Gillard for this change in the law, that makes the defintion of "family violence" incredibly broad. Any action that makes a person feel scared can be considered family violence, according to Australian law.

We need to change this, so that there is a distinction between family squabbling and actual real violence.

And before I get accused of being partisan and biased for criticizing a law that Julia introduced: no I didn't vote for the Coalition last September.

The law used to say that courts must take “prompt action” in parenting proceedings where family violence or abuse may be relevant. Now judges must act within “eight weeks if appropriate”. That’s right. Eight weeks.

If anything, giving a solid time limit by which courts must legally act, is better than just saying "well they'd better do it quickly".

That’s right. Under the present law, a father can threaten to kill his partner, hit her and set her house on fire and he can still get access to their children.

I'm gonna need a source on a case where the guy hit the woman, threatened to kill her and set her house on fire yet is getting un-supervised visitation or custody.

This is factually untrue. According to Australian government figures (sure, males are less likely to report DV and lots of studies show 50/50 ... but let's just go with the government figures for the sake of argument) males make up 1/3 of all DV victims.

That article was pile of steaming sexist fear-mongering garbage but the majority of the comments rightly rejected that nonsense. If people knew the actual stats I'm sure it would be a overwhelming rejection of the arguments being made.
