We often internalize the negative things that society says about men. Like supremacist beliefs about women being better parents. That's BS. You must liberate your mind and realize that your are just as good of a parent.

After that, document on paper every night that the child sleeps under your roof while your ex is institutionalized. A paper calender is best, courts love paper. When you file a petition to adjust custody percentage you'll need that documentation to be successful. Careful, a lawyer will happily charge you for paperwork that has zero chance of success. You have to provide the documentation of new status quo in custody.

But basically I hear, you will need a separate room for the kid to show that they can be accommodated at your place.

You might even receive child support if your ex still has a job when she gets out.

False allegations will most certainly be coming your way as she will want the paycheck back, make sure you record everything, even her friends and family, if they are feminists, they will get on board with the false allegation.

Lawyers. Look into what is your local laws are and the parental rights. And watch your child is saying about you/of saying to you. specifically if it’s you daughter My father lost custody of me because my grandmother say that “he abused me sexually” when he never did.

This more of cps, but also just parenting

•have a bedroom for you kid. Have basic things that a 2 year old.

•show interest in them.

•get involved in their kindergarten/school parenting group

Don't be shy to look into your local government employees, such as social workers. They get so much hate on this subreddit mainly in ways many of them handle child custody cases, but many of them are a source of information regarding these things and many of them are willing to help out and give a good advice. You can quickly see it yourself whether they want to help you or they're just another Feminist worker with a BS degree on a public payroll.

Once you use those options first, then resort to attorneys and other legal advice - they can cost you money and you can avoid that in most cases., plus none of us is familiar with your finances.

Document this. You need to lawyer up and push that in her current state, with her mental health issues (subpoena her health records to be released), she is not capable of being a caring parent.
