A little while ago my girlfriend and I were leaving the local Wendy's and saw a man outside with a sign begging for money to take care of his kids. He's a single father who recently lost his wife and is disabled, unable to find a job or get any government assistance. To see him broke my heart immediately. As a single father who hasn't seen his son in 3 weeks (come tomorrow) that also recently lost his job and apartment, I may be swallowing my pride soon and finding myself doing the same. I asked my girlfriend if I could turn around and give him some money. Out of her own pocket she gave me $20 to give to him because she understands my current situation and how much seeing that deeply affected me. I know a lot of MRA groups get caught up in talking about the various discriminations we face as a gender but I like to think that gender has less to do with it and being a shitty person more so the problem. There's bad people on both sides regardless.

I know there's going to be people that say the guy was lying and just trying to get money for drugs or alcohol. And you know what? If that's the case I'm still fine with that. I hope he gets what he wants with the money we gave him. If it makes today worth living for him and not want to kill himself then I still did the right thing regardless. I try to give to people when I have it to spare. I've done that all of my life. I'm nothing special to look down on someone who's had a harder life than myself or going through something that I may never fully understand. We're all guilty at times of getting caught up in the politics of things and don't spend enough time actually practicing the things we preach to others.

I'm sorry, y'all. I'm not meaning to rant but it really got to me today. I'm having a hard time identifying with either half of my species. I'm sick of seeing people needlessly suffering so someone else can save a few extra dollars a day. It's just not right and if you're not disgusted by it then you're a part of the problem.
