50 years ago when it was falsely stated that girls in adolecence were being left behind at school when in fact they already out numbered men at college, schools went from test based evaluation to teacher based evaluation. With this study the result is clear. Teachers are biased against males and blacks.

Teachers are biased against males and blacks

I definitely saw this when I was growing up. I've always been more on the creative\intellectual side but just because I was black I got pushed into sports even though I could never run for shit and am not naturally coordinated or athletic in the least bit. I should've got pushed into honors classes or debate club.

And I've always said that I thought this had as much to do with me being a man and that being black was just a multiplier. I've seen a lot of my white guy friends go through the same struggles and they seem to get me a lot more than black women.

At what age did you first notice you were treated differently because you were a black male?

[–]GulchDale 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

When I moved to Oregon when I was 11. I came from a predominantly black city and moving to one of whitest was a huge culture shock.

It's always amazing to me how young boys figure out that they are being short changed. In your case it seems race was a big factor. But reports are that boys around 12 have already figured out the game is rigged in the UK.

My introduction to feminism and patriarchy was an 8th grade teacher openly admitted boys can't get A's in her class.

Troutdale actually, in the pre-gentrification 90's. I was one of 3 black kids in my class at Reynolds High school.

Teachers are biased against males and blacks.

True, but also not what the linked article is about. It's about how people observing teachers to review their performance are also biased, against black and male teachers.

The teacher bias against males has been demonstrated so many times, it’s absurd that nothing is being done

[–]duhhhh 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

We've long known of teacher bias against blacks and males. Now we see the administration bias against black and male teachers as well. I wonder if there is any causation there...

I mean just looking at that chart shows that the gender bias is stronger than the racial bias.

As a black guy my friends and I experienced this so much growing up. Teachers constantly trying to embarrass us to claiming we were the problem children. Sad part is we were both quiet/timid kids and looking back those teachers were definitely out of line.

[–]PeonSupreme[S] 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That’s terrible. Teachers can mess kids up so much.

[–]GulchDale 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No doubt, any misbehaving is treated with far more aggression. Women are given a huge amount of leeway to make mistakes where us men and especially black men are treated callously.

Paywalled from the link in the article, but here's the study.
