If you were going to right a politically feasible MRA platform, what would you put in it? What studies, soundbytes, and stats would you use to support it?

After the platform was assembled, would you be willing to write your state legislature to help get bills passed in support of equal rights?

edit: I'm kind of "intelligence gathering" to see what I have to work with, should I try to develop a grassroots activism campaign.

I'd like to review the issues and studies and pick one or two that are politically possible, then work on getting laws passed at the state level.

What I see as MRA's greatest weakness is that it doesn't do politics or public education. I'm afraid we're becoming a circlejerk while other groups define the politics at the expense of men.

  • Look, drawing attention is retarded and circle-jerky. Noone cares about MRA unless they've already been hurt by it. Feminists are successful because they get legislation enacted and present their case from positions of authority. They shape systems. If you want to change the system to protect men and boys, then think of things that can be solved through legislation.

  • Regardless of facts, anything that paints women in a bad light is largely a non-starter. Somethings can be reframed, some can't. Frankly, if you can't describe your issue without mentioning women...then the issue's probably politically toxic.

  • My goal is to get a piece of legislation passed. I need something that MRA will support and the public at large, including women, will support.

Here are some examples (not inclusive, nor exhaustive) that come up off the top of my head...

  • A father's right to know - mandatory paternity testing. Its framed as a right for fathers, not as a defense against unfaithful women.

  • Closing the achievement gap between men a women by funding special boys' programs in education. We aren't taking away from girls, we're elevating boys.

  • Equal spending on men's and women's health. (we all love equality, and we won't mention that women get the lion's share of funding)

  • Mandatory joint custody of children, except in exceptional circumstances. (needs tweaking for verbage)

See what I'm getting at? If we actually want to facilitate change, we need a punchy list of issues and solutions that don't attack women and are actionable through legislation.

After we get the list, we need stats, studies, stories, and soundbites in support of each item.

After that, we can identify groups to partner with for each item (for example: medical labs would be all over paternity testing) to get funding for a PR campaign.

At the same time, we write legislation and get it passed in a state. After we get one state, then we can get additional funding (because of demonstrated success) and start pushing other friendly states to adopt it.

I can solicit groups and get help from outsiders to write legislation, but I need your help assembling the 4 S's.

If MRA doesn't start organizing, its going to stay a circlejerk. We need to identify the issues that we can get political momentum on, assemble supporting S's, and then take action.

So, post the issues that you consider (1) important and (2) politically viable (male rape isn't viable; neither is equal sentencing). Then start sending me links to stories, stats, studies, and sound bites. Once /MR gets organized, I'll put together a website and some other lobbying materials and then start looking for partners.

Organize and work, or just circlejerk. Its up to you.
