nobody has any grounds with which to try to use this (or the /r/feminism one, for that matter) to make a point, so stop trying to.

As I noted:

any google driven survey excludes people who are smart enough to refuse google surveys because of their doxxing potential.

if the mods are so sensitive about doxxing, they should forbid them.

I'm not entirely faulting Rhumar for making a survey that left so much (ie, control, accuracy, and anonymity) to be desired. the problem is that, even though Rhumar admitted in several spaces that the survey was deeply flawed, it confirms prejudices, and therefore is being treated as unassailable fact.

Wil Wheaton, being so prejudiced, treats the results as fact. he does retract here but to much lower response

Amanda Marcotte treats anything that denigrates MRAs as fact.

note that at the time of this writing, all but one of the linked comments were at least a day older than Wil Wheaton's prejudiced post. The one comment by me was edited this morning for clarity, as noted.

This isn't just about Rhumar's survey though.

Inaccuracy has been injected into statistics regarding:

Rape

• Koss

• National Sexual Violence Resource Center

War rape

• United Nations

Domestic Violence

• Department of Justice

• Super Bull Sunday

• Processes Explaining the Concealment and Distortion of Evidence on Gender Symmetry in Partner Violence

Human Trafficking

• Sex trafficking efforts focus on girls, though many surveys have found more boys than girls offering prostitution

Education

• as For every 100 girls and The War Against Boys demonstrate, the AAUW has used misleading surveys and results to frame girls as victims of boys.

THIS is why correcting those statistics is paramount

1) Statistics are used to move people to act.

2) some institutions are responsive to corrections, if hounded enough

Importantly, some of these institutions have made some corrections, but those corrections have been made in response to protests and letter campaigns. For instance, the NISVS survey is under examination and the FBI definition of rape was recently changed and may be clarified further to explicitly include envelopment.

Also the UN has begun to examine male victims of war rape:

In response to a 2012 report, the UN has changed its definition of rape to include men and boys. Unfortunately, their new set of guidelines does not mention females as possible aggressors.
