A trigger warning, and the concept of "triggers" in general seem to be a relatively new term/idea. The idea seems to stem from a "sensitivity" to people's traumas. The concept that simple discussion of said topics could "trigger" a severe emotional response in someone, and so, as adults, we should be sensitive to this topic, and think ahead to warn people that sensitive subject matter might be discussed... like HBO, we should flash a warning screen "Conversations with IRideTheDirt may contain topics not appropriate for all audiences, The following contains discussions of rape, gender issues, and general adult topics, Discussion participation discretion is advised"

This is an obvious method to control the conversation, and limit the topics allowed to be discussed. Another method to re-frame discussions. Same as re-defining words, inventing new terms and concepts intended to limit discussion... Terrible.
