Bret Weinstein on Joe Rogan was really really good. Being an evolutionary biologist, he offers a different perspective then, say, Jordan Peterson who is mixed up with similar people.

great piece. Even liberals are starting to understand the madness. SJWs are fascists, plain and simple:

Also, we would argue that “Right” and “Left” make little sense in either of these contexts. Both fringe groups, extremists wherever they are found, are more accurately described as authoritarian. . . . For today’s social justice warriors, only one narrative shall be allowed. It is unquestionable. Those who dissent are guilty. The “equity and inclusion” movement, cloaked in words that sound benevolent and honorable, is a bludgeon. To the outside world, Evergreen’s implosion looked like a student-motivated response to conditions on the inside. But the terrible conditions don’t really exist, and the real power dynamics, between administrators and faculty, were obscured by a narrative constructed to make resistance impossible.

they try to make them sound the same, but the minority on the right doesn't have anything like this kind of public support (thankfully)

you don't see calls for all minorities to make themselves scarce for a day so we can celebrate the white race

you don't see black administrators fearing for their physical safety while the police are disbanded, as faculty scoff at those worried about the situation and tell the black women to come gather up their friend

sure, not everyone is involved, but those people keeping their heads down here would be very vocal about white nationalists trying to take over their campus

this isn't just a problem of some fringe minority, it's a problem of widespread acceptance of that fringe's identity-politic beliefs

[–]gdengine -4 points-3 points-2 points 8 years ago* (16 children) | Copy Link

you don't see calls for all minorities to make themselves scarce for a day so we can celebrate the white race

You're right. Instead, you see calls for minorities to make themselves scarce forever so that we can have a white nation...and it's not like they have support. I mean fuck, they only have the President of the United States on their side.

You're way off base about the proportions of the extremists on the right and left. I'm just ballparking off observation, but I am willing to be that about 10% of liberals would qualify as extremists. On the right that number I estimate to be 40-50%. We'll call them Trump's "base".

People still adhere to this false belief that 1/2 of Turmp supporters are racist "deplorables." --- leftists have done to the word "racist" what SJWs have done to "rape." Now "racism" means "refusing to recognize 'white priviege' and arguing people should be subject to the same standards regardless of skin color."

[–]gdengine -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

No, leftists have done nothing to it. At some point the racists stopped feeling guilted by it. They said fuck it, I'm going to be a racist if I want. That is how we got here. The far right used to try to hide it. Now they embrace it.

[–]Flavius_Stilicho476 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

B.S.

Adhering to the view that people should be judged by their merits and character and not according to their skin color is NOW considered "racist."

Not supporting affirmative action is now considered "racist."

Not "recognizing privilege" is racist.

Insisting upon objective, color-blind merit-based applications for college or employment is now "racist."

AND, the term has been redefined to mean that professors can fall for the extinction of the white race, but that ISN'T racist!

[–]gdengine 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

That's all fine. The problem comes when you blanket say "Mexicans are not qualified to be in this country" or similar. Which is what Trump and many of his far-right supporters are saying.

[–]Flavius_Stilicho476 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No one says that. Most trump supporters have no problem with LEGAL immigration. They want enforcement so the only people incoming are LEGAL and they want the criteria changed so only those coming in LEGALLY will not be a drain on the system and will instead boost GDP and put us at a competitive advantage.

Nothing "racist" about that at all.

[–]Vandechoz 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

if Trump was so openly racist, people wouldn't have to latch onto his immigration and travel policies which are indirectly racist at worst

stop being disingenuous

[–]gdengine -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

"do we need more people from shithole countries" is indirectly racist?

[–]Flavius_Stilicho476 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Shithole has nothing to do with race; has to do with GDP, economic development, and education level

[–]Vandechoz 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

no, it's not racist at all

cultures, regions, and races are all different things, even if they are linked

[–]gdengine -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

So if I say we shouldn't have immigration from mexico at all, because "mexico is a shithole nation" I'm not talking about mexicans, I'm just talking about the culture of Mexico, right?

[–]Flavius_Stilicho476 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Mexican is a nationality, not a race

[–]gdengine 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

You're right. I think Europeans are the scum of the earth. Now, Flavius, I didn't insult white people..because Europe is a continent, not a race.

[–]Flavius_Stilicho476 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

False equivalency.

What is "racist" is discrimination BASED ON race. I.e. "I won't hire latinos"; "We don't want [x ethnic group] coming here"

In contrast, saying "we don't want poor people" is not "racist" just because most poor people happen to be from a particular race or ethnicity. Likewise, "we don't want immigrants from [pick any characteristic other than race] is NOT racist simply because the majority of X happen to be from one race.

TO use your counter-"example" IF you said "We only want immigration from historically disadvantaged countries"---which has the same result as your "european" characteristic, would NOT be racist.

So in your view, if I reference a geographic location, I am not referencing the people who live there as well?

[–]Flavius_Stilicho4761 point 8 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Depends on the querry..is it based on geographical features?

If I sort data based on a variable, the "discriminatory" intent is based on the variable choice, not the resulting output.

[–]Vandechoz 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I will admit that racists can use innocuous language as a motte and bailey tactic. That does not make that language, by itself, any less innocuous.

This is a very far cry from the sort of things being said by progressives in the linked article.
