A birth control pill I was on cost around $138 for one month worth of pills. I don't think an argument based on cost is justified there, and for some people, even $15-20 extra dollars is pushing it. Everyone has a different financial situation, so saying everyone should just figure out a way to pay for it on their own is pretty stupid. And whether it's for medical reasons or not shouldn't really matter.

Birth control used as medication is different than birth control to prevent pregnancy.

That's just not true. Because the birth control I take for legitimate medical reasons does prevent babies. It's the same exact prescription that thousands of people take because they're being responsible about sex. Do we really want to penalize people for making the responsible choice to take some precautions when they fuck? Maybe if more people took those precautions, we wouldn't be overpopulated.

Different situation, not different pill. I wasn't inferring the pill was different, but the situation. For medical reasos, it should be covered under the same basis of other meds. and like you said, different people have different financial situations and I guess for some it's ok that they can get something for free and others have to pay a copay. And you act like the $138 a month pill is thee only one out there when there is other pills out there that are cheaper that do the same thing, albeit maybe different side effects, asking with cheaper options all together like using condoms or having no sex at all

But then again I pay around $110 a month in copays for my medication that I have little choice in the matter to take or not. Well I do have a choice, but if I choose not to take it has serious medical ramifications. But then again, without insurance, my medication woulds also cost me about $2000+ a month.

So you're against insurance covering birth control because you have to take expensive medications? That sounds a bit petty. Sometimes the cheaper option, isn't the best. With something like birth control, if you find something without side effects, you stick with it. And not all the side effects are harmless like acne. Some will make you incredibly depressed or make you vomit repeatedly for hours. Some people could only take the more expensive stuff, some people can take the cheap stuff.

Regardless, what do you have to gain from making it harder for women to afford birth control? It has no effect on your life. But it does effect men who have partners who take it. Personally, I always keep my partner informed about my birth control status, because neither of us want children. I know they feel a lot better that we're being safe. I mean, if a woman takes birth control as directed she's also protecting any men who bed her from accidents. I really don't understand what issue you take with it.

Youre not technically wrong...but youre missing the whole controversy.

Bill Clinton told the states and medicare that they had to cover ALL FDA approved drugs that were used for their prescribed purpose. Here is the vast damn database of FDA approved drugs that are also covered by medicaid. Is it FDA approved? Then its fucking covered...pretty simple really

Viagra is FDA approved so its covered. Birth control? Approved and covered. In fact here is a list of things my state provides for women through medicaid. Birth control? almost a dozen different kinds!

You know what else is approved by the FDA? Latisse! You know that Latisse does? Grows fucking eyelashes Seriously Theres lots of shit thats approved...big fucking deal.

Does that mean its a free-for-all? No and here is an example.

The Department of Veterans Affairs, for example, limits its patients to four doses of impotence drugs per month. Patients who ask for the drugs are supposed to undergo a thorough medical exam to try to determine the cause of their erectile dysfunction.
