I wanted to comment something. I know if you are on reddit you have seen the covid comments like "yur killing grandma". It has really became a term used all over. But why not grandpa. Does no one cares about grandpa. Was having this thought while driving home today.

I note that this article is from 2019. At this point, I'd say the general negativity felt towards men and masculinity is becoming a cliche and hopefully the trend will begin to reverse over the next decade.

Maybe we can all settle into a more realistic, nuanced view that can acknowledge that there's shitty men out there who think they're being real macho, while the rest of us regular people focus primarily on the positive stuff about men, so we can build up younger guys instead of making them feel like unwanted aliens in their own world.

I think "masculinity" in academia is built on feminist's need to explain women's experiences. It's not about explaining men's experiences.

Feminists see women as oppressed and having no agency, their lives as the result of the things men do. So to explain the oppression, they need to describe masculinity as opressive.
