Why the rule about no memes here?

Content that can be rapidly consumed and reacted to (i.e., "low effort content") will accumulate upvotes faster that equal (or higher) quality content that must be read/understood prior to engaging with it (i.e. "high effort content").

This inevitably reduces the quality of the content of a sub, both in terms of submissions and comments, and has been implicated in the slow death of several communities.

It also facilitates topic dilution, forum sliding, and several other methods for controlling discourse.

It's not necessarily 'memes' that are banned, I know the rules say that but from what I've seen it's mainly low effort shit that gets posts removed here. For instance, if you're some annoying turd who just posts up an image and writes an editorialised headline without trying to generate any kind of discussion then even I think you should get banned because it's just low effort spam.

Very often as well these people are just reposting shit that have already been posted by somebody who had something more thoughtful to write beforehand as well.

Clever memes are often given a lot of leeway.

The principle is that posts should provide value to the sub.

Posts that educate, support activism, promote discussion, clarify topics, demonstrate effective activism, encourage others, etc are high-quality posts that provide value to the users of this sub. Likewise, a potent 'meme', like a cutting satirical cartoon, provides value because it can be used as effective activism.

However, most memes are just self-indulgent confirmation bias.

This is a place more for discussion. If we allow the place to become flooded with memes, then people wishing to discuss things, and people looking for information etc will say "fuck this shit" and leave. Then the place will become nothing but a circlejerk of people posting memes. Memes can be funny and or informative, but that's not why I come here. I come here to have my ideas challenged, and to challenge others ideas, and evolve as a man. If I wanted mindless memes, I would be on twitter.

I agree with most of your points. However, please don't equate feminist with liberal or leftist. One can be both for mens rights as well as liberal and leftist.
