If you have the money and time for that surgery it's likely you should be able to more than make up for your lack of height. Basically, no it's a waste of money for YOU.

It can also fuck up your legs pretty royally and leave you with messed-up proportions. If you do it, go for only an inch or two. That's less likely to leave you with complications, or looking like a guy that's all legs and no torso with weirdly short arms.

I wouldn't do anything that could adversely affect your body and your independence. Being bedridden is never attractive, but if it's worth the risk, do what you want.
