Among household heads who are fathers, some are more likely to be single dads than others. Single fatherhood is generally more prevalent among younger, less educated, poorer and non-white fathers.

In terms of household financial status, single fathers are much better off than single mothers, and much worse off than married fathers.

Almost one-fourth (24%) of single father households are living at or below the poverty level, compared with just 8% of married father households and fully 43% of single mother households.

Median adjusted annual household income for cohabiting fathers is about $38,000 (standardized to a three-person household). Among fathers living without a spouse or partner, the comparable median household income is a bit higher at $43,000. The prevalence of poverty presents a more striking difference between the two groups—while 21% of fathers who are living without a spouse or partner are in poverty, this share rises to 30% for fathers who are living with a partner.

That last point is interesting. It's cheaper to raise kids alone as a single dad than to cohabitate. I suspect that's men with jobs cohabitating with women who don't work, or flipped around, hypergamy where poor women aim for men who are slightly less poor. Remember that many single parents are living at or below the poverty line.

The men are also less educated than single moms but earning slightly more, possibly due to more physically demanding or technical jobs. Not all of them are high school graduates, though.

There isn't much info on whether single dads are more or less likely to raise criminals than couples or single moms. I don't think there are enough single dads for it to warrant the research, though they are a growing demographic. The bigger problem is that fathers are absent and don't live with mom.

We don't have the numbers to make the call. If you count societal level problems you can say single moms are worse but they make up such a larger slice of the population that any problems will be more visible.

there are not enough single fathers to make any research upon, therefore there is no way to find out

There hasn't been a study that separates for factors such as grand- parent involvement, economics, age.

Children do not prosper with little supervision, and without a decent standard of living.

I did wrote a while back on my experiences with single parents over the years and my conclusion was that extended family involvement and stability were the two most important factors in raising a good citizen.
