I’ve taken a big step back in my relationship around being a financial provider. I pay for as much as I can, but I can see how much it delights my very traditional boyfriend to provide for out dates out and time together.

I used to do a lot, such as bring over groceries (which I still do), but we’ve been in an eating out period as both of our jobs and lives separate are stressful. I worry a lot that I’m taking more than I’m giving right now.

I try to be as giving with my time, my help (emotionally and physically) and listening, my expressions of love, appreciation and gratitude and trying to bring happiness and surprises when I can.

Tonight, my boyfriend took care of me when my car was towed from his house, emotionally and financially. And I’ve been sharing a lot more of my emotions with him recently as well—previously I did a lot of emotional labor in our relationship.

I’ve checked in with him often to make sure he doesn’t feel burdened to take care of me, and he assures me that he doesn’t. What can I do to feel like I provide for him, equally?

Is there something special I can do to take care of him in a way that I am perhaps not already doing?
