I (29/F) was with an ex (30/M) for four years. I loved him deeply, we spoke about marriage and children in our future. I think a part of me will always love him and I hate that.

Long story short I ended it because throughout the relationship I learned he had a severe porn and masturbation addiction. You can imagine how devastating this was for both of us, along with my self esteem. I tried so hard to help him but he continued to lie and refused professional help at the end. Leaving him was one of the hardest things I had to do, but I saw my future and knew I wouldn’t be happy and did not want to place my future children in that environment.

It’s been a little over a year, I am happy and have a new boyfriend (32/M). We’ve been together just a month.

My ex decided to like a status of mine on Twitter. When I read his name I immediately felt anxiety. I felt neurotic, which I never do. And like an idiot, I took the bait and messaged him asking why is he contacting me. He gave a sarcastic response at first so I opened up and told him getting over him was difficult and I can’t do this again. He then made up a lie and said that I “liked” one of his comments first so he was just returning the favor. It was a blatant lie and I told him as such. He wished me well and I said bye.

But now I can’t stop thinking about him and it’s so unfair to my current boyfriend. I know I should block my ex. I have this urge to talk to him and get some closure but I fear that’s just an excuse? I need someone to tell me anything, tell me to snap out of it and let it go. This feeling is completely out of character for me.
