Need some advice for how to not go completely coocoo and hormonal after meeting up my long distance boyfriend.

For some context: we had been friends for years online, he was always very supportive and level-headed while I going through some rough times such as a break up, moving across the country, etc. Throughout this time, he steadily became more and more interested in me, to the point where he would often choose to stay home to talk on the phone instead of going out with friends/family. He would tell me he’s obsessed with me, that I’m all he thinks about, etc. Over this past weekend, we met in person for the first time. He flew out to me, and we had a wonderful weekend and he treated me very well. However, while he was here, I kept getting this feeling that maybe he doesn’t like me as much in person as he did online (for no particular reason other than my own insecurities).

Now, it’s been two days since he has left. I’ve expressed my insecurities, that it somewhat feels like he doesn’t love me as much as he says. He insists that the entire weekend was magic for him, and that any sort of change of behavior is only because he is sad about having to leave. However, I’m just having such a hard time trusting him. It feels like he doesn’t want to call me as much, is avoiding talking about our future, and generally may be annoyed with my clingy energy?

My immediate reaction to this is to become emotionally cold and distant towards him, so that I can retain a sense of “power” as a defense mechanism to getting hurt. But I realize that this may make matters worst.

I guess my question to this subreddit is- am I being crazy or is a woman’s intuition usually right? How do I get the constant anxious feeling to go away? I’ve been hurt so badly in the past and would love to not go through that again.
