I recently moved and I've been trying to transfer my job to a closer to home location. My management approved it several weeks ago but due to coverage issues it has been pushed back...so far that I've apparently slipped too far into the holiday season to transfer because corporate blocked all transfers until the last week of December. This wouldn't be a huge issue, just frustrating and expensive for travel, except that when the block was issued my manager never put me on the schedule for my location and I'm also not on my new location's schedule...for two weeks at least. I have made a scene about this to management and it's completely out of my hands at this point unless someone calls out and they call me in to replace them. Even if my transfer is pushed through, I'm still off both schedules for two weeks.

So, my SO and I spoke about it and he sees my panic and understands that I cannot fix this. He's generously told me to not worry, that he'd cover what I can't (his job offers unlimited OT for the holidays and he likes to work) and I appreciate that.

How can I, while out of work for two weeks at least, express gratitude to him and also been productive for the house and have some personal development? Any suggestions? I read this sub every day and I respect you ladies so much. I just want to make the most of this unfortunate blessing of a staycation.

  • I do have a small savings to pitch in with but it was meant to fix my car, not cover what is essentially unemployment. Honestly, I'm overwhelmed and would like to keep occupied instead of feel so angry because of how this has set me back. *
