Hi ladies. Does anyone have advice on how to overcome attachment issues, specifically avoidant attachment issues?

I was abused by my father and mother growing up. As an adult, I’ve always found myself drawn to unavailable men, or pushing away the available men I really liked. More often than not, I am not drawn to anyone. I spend a good portion of my time fantasizing about relationships or true intimacy. But when I go on dates or even enter into a relationship, it feels like I’m acting. I am almost always the person to end things.

I’ve been in therapy on and off since I was 16. I’m 26 now. We’ve hashed and rehashed the abuse, over and over again, and while I intellectually understand that it is my emotional unavailability that is ruining my dating life, I don’t know how to overcome it. So much of me wants to not date at all, but the other part of me really longs for a loving, fulfilling relationship. And time is not on my side these days.

If anyone has any advice, or a success story of how they overcame their abuse, that would be very appreciated as well. Thank you.
