Hi everybody! I’ve been a long time lurker on this sub but never had the guts to post until now. I was raised very traditionally by my mother who was a housewife as was her mother. Women in my family have very traditional roles and although that’s not for everyone, my dream job is to be a housewife and mother like the generations before me. The only problem is my boyfriend of 4 years is struggling with his career path and it is worrying me. We’re both 22, and we both have associates degrees. This fall I am going back to school to get my bachelors of science, and I already have some stellar job opportunities lined up for me. My plan is laid out. I’m getting my degree, getting a good job, working for a couple of years until I’m ready for kids and then hopefully taking off to raise and homeschool them. I’ve talked this through with my boyfriend and he is fully supportive it’s just... as bad as it sounds he has no clue what he’s doing with his life. He got an associates in communication and has no plans to ever use it, he doesn’t even know why he got it. He doesn’t know if he’s going back to school, doesn’t know what field he wants to go into, and so he’s been working as a delivery driver for the past two years. He says he wants to work at a zoo, and although I’m happy for him, we had a lady who works for the zoo tell us it pays awful and it’s not worth it. Nonetheless he’s determined to work there, and plans on working there in some field indefinitely? The thing is I’m scared that I will be stuck as the bread winner since I’ll be a scientist, and he’s going to support our family by being a... zookeeper? It sounds awful I know, but I’m scared to start a life with someone who isn’t financially stable. What should I do?
