Hi Ladies,

I suggested to my LTR of 8 months yesterday that we take a break for 2 weeks (includes no messaging). Reasons for doing so:

  1. I have doubts about the relationship working long-term because
  2. Certain traits about him irritate me a little as a partner e.g. being slow at getting some things/not being assertive enough in a group setting and it shouldn't be like that
  3. I don't feel like we can connect on a deeper level/not sure how/we haven't got there yet/he's not the most talkative guy
  4. I'm not in the best place in life at the moment (as you may see in a previous thread, not happy with work/life) and I'm not sure if I'm projecting my own negativity on to him
  5. He's an amazing guy and I don't want to ruin things with him. The other day my hamster let loose after a whole day of hanging out with him and practically not talking about anything meaningful, and I told him I had a boring day...Obviously that hurt him because he only asks for my company and nothing else and here I am bitching :(

He's going out of the country for 2 weeks for work hence why I suggested the break. I assured him this does not mean a break up. He looked devastated :(

Anyway, I'm trying to find the root of the problem here. I'm pretty sure it's just me not being content about where I am at life at the moment so I'm trying to gain control of my relationship??? I'm not sure. But at least bf is a safe distance away from me whilst I sort my shit out.

Any advice/things to do in the following weeks to come is greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance. I will definitely be more active in this post and will answer any questions I can.

Edit: I’ve been watching some school of life videos on relationships and referencing from psychoanalysis books which are helping a lot to try to pinpoint exactly why I’m feeling the way I am. For those who might be interested! And I’m only day 2 into the 2-week break.
