All of the obvious AF/BB aspects of this story are already covered, but I think it points out one other thing: woman have no honor.

If I tell you "I'll take out the trash today" you can think I will probably do it. If I say "I give you my word and vow that I will take out the trash" you will probably think that I'm actually taking this pretty seriously and would bet that I'll actually do it. Men have honor. There is a reason why "a man's word is his bond" has been a concept known in many cultures around the world for millennia. There is an understanding that men not only consider their own honor, but that of others. Men duel. Women slip poison into tea when their victim isn't looking. Enemies in war who have found themselves forced to work together have given their word that they will work together and not hurt each other until they are out of the situation. I believe there was an instance of this happening to fighter pilots in WWII. The Christmas Truce in WWI relied on the honor of men to not start shooting each other when their guard was down. And it worked. Honor has been a part of war for ages. And honor has always been a masculine trait.

This woman vowed to be his wife. She stood on an alter in front of her family and some sort of cleric and vowed that she would be his wife til the end. But the problem in that is that women can't actually vow anything. The can say they do, but it doesn't mean anything. Just as Rollo says, in front of every statement a woman makes insert "Right now I feel like". And as soon as those feelings change, all promises go out the window. They have no inner sense of doing the right thing because it's right. Two woman would never ever stand 10 paces apart with loaded pistols and trust in the honor of the other to not fire until they both agree. They know that women are not capable of that level of trust, integrity, or personal ethics.

Yet another reason to not get married. Not just because of the obvious cheating, but because of what the cheating for 10 years while staying married means. This woman had no internal code of ethics. She didn't simply divorce him and marry the other guy. She didn't tell him why she became unattracted to him. She chose neither to fix the situation or to remove herself from it. She chose to try to get the best of both worlds for herself and only herself through 10 years of deceit and trampling on that alleged solemn vow she made on her wedding day.

Assuming a women is capable of any of the same ethics or codes of integrity a man is will be folly every single time. That is not to say all men always act honorably. many do not. But they are capable of it. Women are not.

I saw this on TIFU when it was originally posted, pre-TRP days (I'm pretty new here).

I'm someone who has been the BB all my life but has hovered on the fringe of alpha, not quite putting it all together, or having a phrase for what alpha was. Seeing this post stirred those feelings again, but post-Matrix that story has a whole new meaning.

Really hits home. My job has been making me miserable, I know I can do better or at least try to do better - if I fail at least I won't have any regrets. The main reason I haven't gotten out isn't due to the money but because I still harbor beta notions of caring about everyone else and being scared of the reactions. I am worse than John in this sense, at least he was unaware of what was happening.

I remember this. I posted this exact article some times ago, and someone else posted it before me. This story circulates around reddit and reappears here every now and then as a great reminder to not end up like this guy.

Still, it's good that this is reposted so often. It really should just go into the sidebar for newbies to read immediately.
