Wow good shit but I honestly feel awful after reading this . This poor guy is basically brainwashing himself to believe that his valid misgivings on his " relationship" are in fact childish hamstering about his insecurities. The content of his post is actually very good I too deal with Self - deprecating thoughts at times but his application and dissection of his feelings in terms of a "SURPRISE NEW PARTNER" is pretty disgusting .

Sometimes I hold a lot of resentment towards the arrogant betas but this one makes me remember how shitty I perceived myself and considered my own self as a beta.

I feel sorry for the dude, I hope he comes to grips with the fact that this open relationship situation isn't for him or at least puts himself in a position to fuck someone new . He won't because as you can tell in his writing his perception of sex and value are not quite TRP - aligned . I hope for his own sake he wakes up though .

Dude is experiencing a large emotional pain whose origin is deeply rooted in our male mammalian brain (we don't like our partners fucking other guys because we fear we might be raising kids that are not our own), and instead of acting on that emotion like we act on others (burning pain -> remove hand from fire, because essentially that's what emotions are for: taking action), he courageously attempts at suppressing the emotion through rationalization. And he does so because modern society has taught him that "polyamory" is a very valid type of relationship, that's there's nothing wrong about it, and therefore that his emotional pain is unwarranted.

His making his anxiety at "writing blog posts" a parallel example is a part of the rationalization attempt: he's trying desperately to equate the pain of his absolutely necessary natural resistance at being cucked with the pain of his difficulties in maintaining a high self-esteem as a begginer writer.

Poor dude is not going to stop suffering anytime soon...

CBT is valid and cognitive distortions are something we always have to be mindful of. That being said, one has to be cautious about rationalizing away all of our feelings. This particular fellow is basically trying to program himself to feel good about his girlfriend banging other guys. Like a lot of polyamorous relationships, this means the girl is out having sex with half of the planet and the guy is a house bitch.

It's the same issue many people with no confidence and a lack of self-respect have; He's trying to convince himself that he can be okay with anything instead of deciding on what he actually does and doesn't like. He feels he has to be perfect and that the way to be perfect is to be able to get along with anyone in any situation at the expense of himself.

The actual idea is to understand that you aren't in control of everything and to do your best to succeed and live the life you want, not to let anything happen to you and just be okay with it. That's the being a wimp.

Sadly most interpretations of this mindset teach you to be passive.

What's amazing is that the first example every time actually holds some weight. He can identify his inner critic ignoring logic in a way that brings him down. However in every second example, he throws this logic out the window and uses the first as if they are in anyway similar.

IE- People on his post telling him he's good just to be nice? Logically these are random strangers, non face-to-face with no reason to lie. He clearly is a good writer, and needs to stop worrying.

However, his partner saying she feels so 'intimate' to keep him around whilst she fucks Chad? That makes a lot of logical sense. She has a great reason to lie. It's amazing that he can dissect his thinking so impressively but also actively ignore logic, presumably due to some form of indoctrination by her or wider society.

Constructive Criticism. Your conclusion is right but your method of getting there is wrong. When presenting an arguement, you start off with a truth then you add points to get to a conclusion.

The author's technique involves identifying our own particular Cognitive Distortions and applying a method of drawing tables and writing them down for analysis. Personally, I have never been able to relate to these types of exercises but to each his own.

This is actually a good method of self awareness. Write down all of your beliefs, how many are based on facts? If you are honest with yourself, 90% of your beliefs are based on beliefs as opposed to fact.
