I've had a few women tell me how hot it is when I know what to do when something goes wrong. I'm not just a competent person, I'm capable. I don't think that I'm much smarter than average, but I do have a versatile skill set that comes in handy quite often. I live a pretty average life, I go to work, I take care of myself/hobbies, enjoy the company of a few good friends; as such the "things going wrong" situations I'm talking about are hardly extraordinary. I'm middle class and most of the time paying someone to fix things for me is not an insignificant expense. Say the car breaks down, what do you do? Do you have a manual and/or tools? A lot of the time it can be fixed on the spot. The roof's leaking? What do you do? The fridge isn't cold? The vacuum isn't sucking? These are all mundane problems that have usually have fairly simple fixes that any capable person should be able to manage. Obviously there are somethings that are not DIY fixes that you should probably hire someone for.

The thing is, to women these things are all magical. Most women go through their lives with absolutely no idea how the things that make up their lives function. Car? Magic. Fridge? Magic. Vacuum? Magic. Light switch? Magic. Your capability when it comes to mundane things can be an SMV indicator. Take adversity as an opportunity to showcase your capabilities.

I live in a rural area and the women here can smell a fake. You can't just get bigger biceps and grow some stubble but not know how to change a tire and expect to be perceived as masculine.
