The other day I was fretting over the fact that my young niece is growing up to become everything we don't want young women to become: masculine, aggressive, overly dramatic, entitled. Then I began to think about female role models. Little girls watch a lot of TV, like most people do, and the types of shows they watch are shows like iCarly, Victorious, ANT Farm, Sam and Cat, etc. I've seen most of these shows with my niece. Most of the time, the protagonist or main character portrays an adolescent young girl that is rebellious. She's often times violent, manipulative, and career oriented (for being an adolescent). When did TV start portraying young girls in this way? If I ever elect to have children, they will spend a minimal amount of time watching TV.
