GoodFellas: Way down deep in the reptile brain, Henry Hill, Jimmy the Gent, and Tommy are exactly what guys want to be: lazy but powerful, deadly but funny, tough, unsentimental, and devoted above all to their brothers. Women sense that they are irrelevant to this fantasy, and it bothers them.

Review of the new Ghostbusters: "In the original, the bad guys weren’t actually the ghosts; the bad guys were the gov't bureaucrats, who set off a supernatural crisis through bumbling. In this film, by contrast, the enemy is all men. Every man in the movie is a combination of malevolent & moronic."

The video of a small child crying as she is being "taken from her mother" is a complete falsification. The child and mother have remained together the entire time. However the mother did take the child away from Honduras without the father's approval, and the father never even got to say goodbye.

Amazing movie. There were a lot of great moments in the movie and some of which the article cited but the line that really gave me chills when i first watched the movie was:

Saturday night was for the wives, but Friday was always for the girlfriends.

That blew my mind at the time. Especially the matter of fact way in which he states it. It was my first exposure to the concept of "spinning plates".

ctrl-f "misogyny".

And this is why we need feminism, for stupid misogynistic shits like this. No wonder his girlfriend left him.

Ah there it is.

Like clockwork.

The feminine imperative never shuts off.

The last paragraph of that article is fucking hilarious. So on point

Good lord why are there always pesky women with their "As a woman..."??

[–]1theoctopuss3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Their subconscious has them act on things that have had good results in the past, even if they don't remember it. There's almost no men (minus mangina male feminists) that identify themselves in that way. They will state their piece, then be done with it.

These women are so entitled that they believe they will get a pussy pass on the internet. They learned that white knights will stick up for a woman, no matter if she's wrong or right. "Omg he hurt my feelings! Sick 'em boys!"

To a woman, it's not about who's wrong or right. It's about who's to blame and who's excused. In her mind, "winning" socially, i.e. everyone agrees with her opinion, is the most important thing. It all goes back to the hunter-gatherer and tribal societies from thousands of years ago.

Devoted to brothers? What godfather bullshit fantasy is this? If you were ordered to whack your father then you damn well had to do it. These guys have no loyalty to anyone.

Why was he disappointed that his gf didn't appreciate the movie as a male fantasy though? Would he have appreciated Pride and Prejudice? ;)

[–]NoMoBluepill5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Good movie but I think you're pretty off base. I don't think anyone, alpha or beta, strives to be a homocidal crazy person like tommy desimone. He literally killed a random guy walking down the street and said he did it because "I'm a bad dude." The real jimmy Burke was a major drug trafficker and would extort his victims for money by locking their young kids in refrigerators and killing them.

Even in the reptile brain no one wants to be those guys. Unless you're a nutcase.

Again good movie but that's about all that can be said.

In fairness Henry Hill never came off as a stone cold killer to me. Jimmy kills for necessity and for profit, Tommy on the other hand was a reckless psychopath.

[–]NoMoBluepill-1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Necessity is a strong word for why James Burke killed people, I doubt his victims families agree with you.

Actually it's not a strong word it's just dumb - Burke was a murderer who rightly died in prison, how can you possibly say he killed by "necessity?"

[–]Tarnsman4Life1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Necessity in his eyes; he needed to kill the people who pulled off the Lufthansa heist because he felt they were fucking up and sooner or later the cops would catch one of them and make them talk. Add in a strong primary/secondary motive of wanting all of the money to himself.

[–]Cryocasm0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What surprise is there?

I'm certain there will be an outrage over how male spaces still exist these days and how this promotes the existence of a woman-free no-bullshit zone.

I remember the days where the mates and I would agree "there's too much fun police here" and leave. Now we just tell them to leave.

However, curiously enough (although unsurprisingly), RP women will partake in shit-shooting to a much higher degree than the mainstream mass of ditzy dumb bitches. Can get some real fire outta them.

The only problem with Goodfellas is that it's a true story and just about everybody gets whacked in the end.

You need a more stable type of natural hierarchy where everyone isn't constantly killing each other just for cash.

I mean seriously... they fucking killed the whole crew so that one guy could not have to split the money.

Whenever I rewatch that movie in the beginning when they show one of the guys I quickly think ahead to how they kill the guy. Ice pick in back of head? Meat hooks in freezer?

[–]stargrunt6 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Brotherhood? What about Jimmy Conway offing everybody after the Lufthansa heist? And don't say it's because they didn't lay low, that was a flimsy excuse to get a bigger cut.

[–]moose_war-5 points-4 points-3 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I'm pretty picky when it comes to films. I have high standards and study it as an art form. I always found Goodfellas severely overrated.

If you want to talk about great male movies that Scorsese has made, you obviously would do better looking at Taxi Driver (male loneliness and frustration) and Raging Bull. I wonder how much women really understand either of these films...probably less than Goodfellas.

I'd like to point out that some girl saw Kyle Smith's article and of course got all huffy and claimed she DID understand Goodfellas- and that of course, Henry's wife, played by Lorraine Bracco, was the "most important character in the film". Humph! So there! I won't bother linking the article, I just found that funny. Every time a guy writes an article like this, some huffy woman has to write a rebuttal and claim it's actually a feminist movie or some supporting female character is the "Real star!" or something. Good grief.
