This subreddit has been on the fence for me lately. How can we be a group of women if we encourage crazy dieting? I mean, I'm happy for the OP, but really? I wish I saw more body positive stuff here. I'm in recovery from an eating disorder and stuff like this is so alienating. Why can't we celebrate our bodies as they are instead of celebrating changing them? :(

That's a shame. If she still had the eating disorder I'd consider her plate-worthy. But no, she wants to be "nice" and celebrate a path of incremental fatness/laziness. Women's cognitive dissonance to logical truth continues to amaze me.

Ha, you should meet a girl "recovering from an eating disorder". For every one that was actually bone thin, there are twenty that were just as fat as they are now. Their "eating disorder" involved just feeling bad about eating so much, not actually refraining from eating. Maybe they threw up one time, skipped one meal, or cut themselves one time, but it wasn't enough to actually lose weight. They just had "poor body image" meaning they felt ugly for being fat, you know, being in touch with reality.

They just had "poor body image" meaning they felt ugly for being fat, you know, being in touch with reality.

Not necessarily. It just means they're incredibly self-conscious about how they look. This does NOT automatically mean she's unattractive. And you know she won't blimp out because she micromanages her looks. Also, girls who have eating disorders are incredibly dependent on approval (due to self-consciousness), meaning they have no interest in being the mythical "strong, independent woman." Rather, she will willingly let her man have all the power in a non-exclusive relationship. I can't think of a better scenario than this. I get to fuck her whenever I want while continuing to live my life as I please, and she'll rarely ever nag.

I particularly like the last sentence in the last comment:

"I didn't want to be a mega bitch to you. But, you not being a fatass brought it out of me. So it's your fault for actually doing something with your life :)"

Or at least, that's how I interpreted it.

deleted What is this?

[–]Dexadrine0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, the bread of 300 years ago maybe. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rye_bread

There was some actual fiber content to it. Some slight nutritional value.

Modern bread, it reduces down to sugars FAST. Might was well just chug a coke or three. ;)

Granted, a little does prime the pump if you need some energy before going out to work in a frozen hellscape. :D

A woman with an eating disorder somehow becomes an expert on nutrition. Grains aren't a necessary part of any animal's diet. We humans are really the only ones that eat that shit. They have very little nutritional value and are completely unnecessary if you eat right

Also, I like "Hamsters gonna hamst" better

[–]alreadyredschool1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

She is correct, except for the positive body image stuff. Balanced nutrition > everything else. All you have to do is eat less.

I know that some ketonazis are going to hate now but it just is that way. Carbohydrates don't make you fat, they only make you more hungry because they raise blood sugar levels.

Hunger =/= Gaining weight

[–]Sandkasten1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I guess even your so called Ketonazis do not oppose the energy in and energy out theory.

I know that you can have a healthy and balanced nutrition on a Low-carb diet, on Keto and with Carbs. What about vegetarians or vegans?

It is not just that way. Studies have shown that Keto has its pro and cons. Studies have also shown that your diet has its pro and cons.

If kidney stones run in your family, on Atkins, YOU'RE GONNA HAVE A BAD TIME. :D

Might need to do it the slower way with South Beach or a more moderate diet.

Granted, you can also do it a slower way, and replace all simple carbs with progressively more complex carbs, and start to reduce those.

The idea is to reduce the massive swings in insulin and blood sugar that turn most americans into lardballs in short order.

Doing some sort of exercise to bring up your metabolism is also essential. Walk around the block a few times a day, vacuum every day like you're an OCD case, swing a kettlebell around, do some Quigong exercises for 10-15 min.

Don't do what I do, like cut down a tree, chop it into little bits, spend 2 hours cleaning up, lubing, and sharping said chainsaw, drinking large amount of booze to compensate for the aches, pains, and stiffness. Eat three packs or ramens, collapse for 12 hours, devour half a pound of meat, eggs, throw in tomatoes, vegetables, next morning.

Yeah, you gain a lot of muscle capacity that way, also lots of bruising, coughing up sawdust, traumatizing the local wildlife, etc. :D And if you're not careful, and methodical with your cuts, you get squashed flat. ;)

Plus you're also kind of forced to walk, to work out the aches and pains, clean up the logs, branches, etc.

That can prime the pump to an exercise and better eating regime. But it can also have a negative influence on all the little neighbor kids who start to think chainsawing things is normal. It can also cause trauma to the ecobunnies in the neighborhood who come to look at the tree you "murdered" only to find a mass of lumber riddled with carpenter ants, bracket fungus, etc. Plus various garter snakes snarfing up the bugs you displaced. (one is getting so fat, he's shed his skin like 3 times in a month).

Anyway, what was my point? I dunno, chainsaw vibrations have rattled my brains.

Agreed. Wholesome, complex carbs kick ass IMO. Nothing like a bowl of steel cut oats or some sweet potatoes.

True. I am pretty good about keeping my carbs low right now as I'm losing weight. All the more reason to stick with it IMO... I love bread. The sooner I can get back to eating it (in moderation, of course), the better.

I'm no ketonazi, but I have read some on it, and tried practicing. I have never heard that carbohydrates that make you fat.

The body only stores calories as fat. Only fat makes you fat.

The problem always has been and always will be ensuring that you don't take in more calories than you burn.

The whole thing about lowering carbs is just about balancing fuel sources to ensure you are removing the most harmful substances as quickly as possible. Since the body only burns carbs, proteins, and fats as fuel sources (in that order, as well, carbs are the easiest thing for your body to consume), the more carbs you have in you, the less fats you're going to burn. The goal is to limit the amount of carbs you have (not remove them completely), as well as maintain proper amounts of proteins (to avoid destroying your own muscles), and ultimately you can get to a state where your body is burning fat for fuel, instead of saving it.

But, I guess just like any set of beliefs (religion, TRP, Femenism, etc.), there are bound to be those who take it to the extreme, and blow things out of proportion, and bring a bad rep to the whole idea.
