On the contrary it's actually quite easy to stay happy. The first part of figuring out what to do starts with getting a gym membership. You said you've broken yourself down? Great, now build yourself back up again stronger and better.
Clearly you understand listening to your mom fucks your life up. Easy fix: stop implementing her advice.
Number 2, you understand the fundamentals of TRP don't you? No one has a play in your happiness except you. Depression is no joke and I understand that. You have to find ways to stimulate your brain to distract yourself from the negatives.
Always stay busy wether it's doing laundry or dishes or going outside to clean your car (chores help WONDERS in maintaining your energy levels and keeps your mind off things, hell it even looks better afterwards).
There will be something's that you don't wanna probably do that will benefit you in the long - run. They are as follows:
Reading
Practicing a hobby (no one great was born great) Learn to get over trials and tribulations with a smile on your face. They will never stop.
Start talking to girls and don't expect anything out of them. Or your friends for that matter.
Go out by your self. (Trust me, it's scary as fuck at first, but it gets better)
Start an online store (make some side money, it's easy as shit to get started and all the ads and product picking will surely occupy your time and keep your mind off things)
Those are some small things you can do to begin. We all gotta start somewhere man, but it seems like you already understand what's at stake, so take what's yours and build your new legacy the way you want. You have the opportunity

Well I have some great news for you OP. Not only do you recognise your problems, but you have also come to the right place to fix the fuck out of them.
You are going to need discipline. Getting through this will require determination, change, and positive mindset.
As an aside I can relate to the position you are in, and not in a vague, i've experienced difficulty way, but literally have been in the position I dont know who I am anymore, I feel completely fucking lost
I dont know who I am anymore, I feel completely fucking lost
If you don't already lift at the gym regularly and eat healthily. Stronglifts 5x5 is an easy program for this, and google healthy eating, but basically nothing processed, avoid sugar, drink water only.
Get your mental health under control. Find people to confide in, friends, family, therapists, if desperate perhaps colleagues but avoid that if you can.
Meditate - it will help you focus, and gain insight and control over your emotional states
I could go on, but everything you need to do to take back control of your life you can both find here, and google generally.
What you cannot get from here is discipline, determination and taking action, that comes from you. Own that, and you will own yourself.

I don't know what you're going through and I'm sure its hard getting back on your feet as I come from depression myself before getting a grip on myself.
Its easy though, once you realize what you need to do or what you need to think.
My advice is to stop taking life too seriously and prioritize your enjoyment. Accept yourself(the good and the bad) and stop thinking about what other people's opinions. Also, be content with what you have. Consider life as a card game and play with the card that you're dealt instead of obsessing to get the ace that would make your hand infinitely better.
Anyway, getting out of depression was almost an instantaneous event for me after realizing that things aren't working out for me. I thank TRP for guiding me towards that. It's hard getting out but also easy if you know how.
Good luck to you

A big step in being happy with yourself is to feel and look good. I don't know if you're too fat, too thin, butt ugly, or you have the face and body of a Greek God, but here's what I'm finding:
I suffer from intense chronic head pain which exercise makes worse. I cannot exercise without the pain making me suicidal. A diet of Morphine and fast foods made me fat and lazy. This past year, I've cut out most of the shit food and literally eat one small meal a day, sometimes I'll even go a day without eating. Now, it's terrible advice to do this yourself since a guy who wants to build himself up needs protein and calories from good food sources. I have gone from overweight to nearly back to my ideal weight and I didn't exercise to get here. I would LOVE to so I can work up more muscle and drop the weight faster but I must work within my circumstances.
Since I can now fit into normal clothes, I've bought a few decent pairs and it's made a world of difference. The confidence boost you get from feeling and looking good is immense. Do not underestimate it.
So, if weight or looks are a problem for you, do kinda what I did and drop the weight and bulk up with exercise and dress smarter. Doesn't have to be a Tux every day, but at least a buttoned shirt and decent shoes and trousers, and drop the Fedora if you have one.

Have you seen a chiropractor for your headaches?
[–]gjs6280 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yes, I've seen a Chiro, as well as a Pain specialist, a neurologist, an oncologist, an endocrinologist, 8 General Practice doctors, an acupuncturist, two physiotherapists, and a partridge in a pear tree. Nobody can help. The pain is from a mix of tension headaches and nerve damage in my shoulder. It's debilitating and I'm sick of it but there's nothing I can do except spend every day wishing that today is the day it finally stops.

The best advice i can give you is to read the Handbook . Its on the sidebar alongside with the other posts. Just remember not just read everything but take action to it as well. Any question you can post at /askTRP

tbh dude start with finding the fault in your life(depression, etc). Then find the little things that can give you an edge like signing up to a gym. Stop implying to your mother that you subconsiouncly need help. As long as you at TRP you know the meaning behind this. Depression is no joke but you have to find ways to cultivate yourself and become a better you, the one YOU really want to be

Hey man, Like many of these other comments, I have been in the same position. Tbh, I still don't 100% know who I am, but that's okay because I have a clean slate to be whoever I want to be. To escape this mindset I had one thought that spiralled in hard work and results and that thought was "what do I want most in the world/what do I care about?" For me the answer was physical health and money. So now, every decision I make is in service of one of those two things. I read a post on here a few weeks ago about always trying to leave your comfort zone in order to expand it, so if you don't feel comfortable talking to girls for example, just walk up to them and trial and error. I've literally walked up to girls and asked them how they would like to be approached just in the pursuit of research. Fight for what matters most and remember TRP is a friggin awesome support network

I still have hope, but I don't know how to be happy anymore.
That's the root of your problem.
Women tell you life is about chasing after happiness.
We say to you:
STOP
Get off the hamster wheel of rationalizations that tries to make life about "happy" and see the real world as it really is.
Amused Mastery is when you aren't chasing happiness anymore, but see life as an absurd thing where fools do funny things without self awareness.
Become wise and stop chasing the happy feelz.
