TLDR:

While the menu of college relationships typically spans from one shot sexual exchanges (with no expectation of intimacy) to “friends with benefits,” in the post-college setting it is costlier for women to continue this routine. The biological logic here is obvious as the former coed’s fecundity will be jeopardized if she continues the “party” lifestyle into her thirties. Alpha males typically delay marriage, possibly into their forties, and marry much younger women (the cream of the crop of that younger cohort).

Ultimately former coeds will marry men who are mostly less attractive than the boys they “hooked-up” with in college. The former coed may feel she is “settling” for someone less attractive (in the visceral sense) than her former college flings (even though her husband is a better long-term mate). The woman’s psychic attachment to her more attractive lover(s) is symptomatic of the “endowment effect” much discussed in behavioral economics.

The flip side is that college men will often marry women who previously “put out” to better looking men in college. The married man might consider this a form of intertemporal cuckoldry; he may feel that he has bought the cow, where others have gotten the milk for free. This resentment is likely to be acute for the married man who is now a successful professional and/or the primary breadwinner. In this instance, the married man (who perhaps forewent “partying” opportunities in college) will feel that his wife has gotten the better of this arrangement.

On this note, the post-college social scene of the last few years is quite different than what it was even a mere decade ago. So-called third wave feminists, supported by the mainstream media and left leaning college professors, have pushed the “blank slate” theory to suggest young women are free to enjoy their sexual prime. Consequently, young women are encouraged to pursue sexual ends using the male paradigm; they are taught they can have as many sexual partners as they desire and can settle down and get married later. As indicated, the post-college dating scene is dominated by alpha males who have casual sex with many women. When they seek marriage later, these women typically find only beta males; these betas are tacitly aware these female candidates were providing sexual access to alphas on more agreeable terms.

All of this could explain the recent increase in never marrieds as the marriage market no longer clears. Pro-sex feminists might consider that, in the sexual domain, the application of pure reason (à la the Enlightenment) is limited by the emotion of disgust. Just as we are disgusted at the thought of consensual sex between siblings, a future potential husband is disgusted at the thought of his wife having had dozens of men in the past.

Dovetailing these concerns is an academic cottage industry on the “increased female unhappiness” of Western women. The theory here is that modern women are less satisfied than their grandmothers because they now delay childbearing to an advanced age while simultaneously holding down demanding jobs in the competitive globalized workplace. Arguably, however, the amount of “happiness” for women has not decreased, but merely been frontloaded to their early 20s when they are having copious sex before settling down for marriage with lesser men. The actual “redistribution of happiness” has been to the alpha males who secure more sexual pleasure in their 20s at the expense of betas who remain lonely until they later make terms with leftover women.

Conclusion:

Is there any way to put the female sexual genie back into her bottle? The suggestion of reviving socially-imposed monogamy has been met with derision. Jordan Peterson never credibly answered the podcast host Joe Rogan’s simple question: How do you reconcile free market neo-liberalism with limited sexual freedom? One suggestion would be to discourage coeds from having sex with any male who “outranks” them on “Hot or Not.” Just as a mother discourages her child from developing a taste for sweets, so middling coeds could avoid a taste for the Chads. And yet, this idea flies in the face of our present zeitgeist which asymmetrically acknowledges only male mate value. Environmentalists should see the silver lining in our present situation, as birth rates should continue to drop and our only descendants will be the offspring of the “hottest” late 30s men and late 20s women.

Interesting post but the author is missing two trends: 1. Tinder is milking more and more money out of it’s male subscribers by forcing them to pay for more and more boosts in order to get the same amount of matches that they previously got for free. 2. Unhinged alpha widows are increasingly opting for IVF once they reach their mid to late 30s.

Several comments have touched upon the fiat currency aspect of the economy, but first I should do a little recap . . .

Several weeks back in the "FTC files suit against online dating apps" thread, the discussion veered off a little bit into the realm of monopolies, and the seemingly selective enforcement of the Sherman Anti-Trust Act. I mentioned how Disney would be a ripe target these days, but isn't being bothered. AT&T was ordered to be broken up in 1984, but they seem to have a pretty big slice of the telecommunications pie these days.

The other case I mentioned was the lawsuit against Microsoft, alleging "unfair and predatory business practices" in the language of the FTC complaint. What does this have to do with fiat currency, you ask? During the Microsoft ordeal, with massive front page coverage and lots of Op-Ed pieces about the various rulings by the presiding judge, there was another little item of interest, a scrawny two paragraph item I found on the bottom of page 23 of the Austin American-Statesman: SEC regulators were about to approve the merger of Exxon and Mobil, which were two companies created by the breakup of Standard Oil. This is a classic bit of misdirection, don't you think? While everybody is all worked up about Billy Gates' questionable practices (the Japanese have a saying that "Business is War," and all's fair) nobody noticed John D. Rockefeller's empire starting to come back from the dead.

Misdirection is a favorite tactic of stage magicians and con artists, but the ruling elites are the real pros at this. Every few years, the Federal Reserve makes changes and improvements to the look of US currency. The $100 bill was the first to be redesigned, incorporating features to make the bills more difficult to counterfeit; security strips, watermarks, colored microfibers, prismatic ink, RFID chips, micro-engraved authenticators worked into the background scroll-work and such. The $50 bill was next, followed by the $20, the $10 and the $5 bills. All of them received makeovers and security upgrades similar to the $100 bill. but they also received something else.

Those of you with some cash in your wallets might want to pull out a couple of bills and look at them, and make sure to pull out a $1 bill as well. The dollar bill I'm looking at has the old style Federal Reserve seal to the left of George Washington's picture, with a capital letter "F" for the 6th District Bank of the Federal Reserve in Atlanta, Georgia. Serial # F 57264186 L. The first letter should match the seal. Then you have an 8-digit number, which in theory allows for 100 million numbers. Then there is the second letter (L) which is the 12th letter. IF they are using the full spread of numbers, then this particular bill from 2013 was the 1,157,264,186th $1 bill issued by the Atlanta Federal Reserve that year.

I pulled out a $5 bill, also from the year 2013. The seal no longer indicates which district branch issued the currency, but the serial number will tell you, if you remember to use an alphanumeric association; A=1, B=2, etc. Serial #MK 79073527 C. Hmmmmmm . . . For some reason, they seem to have added another character to the serial numbering scheme. K=11, so this bill was issued by the 11th District Federal Reserve, which is based in Dallas - sensible enough, since I'm only 4 hours south of there. Still have 100 million possible number combos, and with the "suffix character" being C, that might mean this is the 279,073,527th $5 bill printed by the Dallas Federal Reserve. Misdirection again, methinks. Everybody oohing and aaahing over the cosmetic and security aspects but not even noticing how many more serial numbers become available by adding a single character. They are running the printing presses like mad, and sooner or later, the piper will have to be paid. We might literally see Weimar Republic levels of hyperinflation, where things were so bad that German husbands would hand their wives their paychecks during their lunch break instead of after work, so that the money could go a little further at the grocery store.

Edit: I used to drive a cab, so I handled a fair bit of cash. Austin has some crazy busy times, with the whole South By Southwest Festival, Austin City Limits Music Festival, and UT Football (Ohio State and Notre Dame travel quite well; we used to joke about weighing our wallets instead of counting currency when those teams played here). Halloween, Fat Tuesday , Thanksgiving Night and New Year's are big money time as well. I noticed the serial number thing towards the end of my cab-driving days, and after some of those big events with lots of out-of-towners, I would notice some really funky numbers. District 2 is New York and District 12 is San Francisco, where there are tons of banks devoted to nothing but investments and balancing out the Import/Export transfers. I have seen $100 bills with suffix characters towards the very end of the alphabet; S, T, U, V and W, but only if they originated in those two Districts.
