Lessons from Tinder: Don't be a 'nice guy'

Over the past few weeks I've experimented with different Tinder profiles.

Weeks 1-2

I went for the "here to fuck" type profile. I had a nice selfie in the mountains, some pictures of me traveling, and a shirtless pic showing my muscles. My profile read something like "Looking for somebody I can treat like my mountain bike. Ridden fast and hard, and put away clean and wet." (Cue the losers stealing that line...)

Weeks 1-2: 94 matches, 3 dates.

Weeks 3-4

I went for the "nice guy" profile. No shirtless pictures, described myself as a "hopeless romantic" in my profile, talked about how I liked to travel, essentially beta bux. All different pictures, changed my name slightly to reduce chance of being recognized by previous swipes.

Weeks 3-4: 6 matches, 0 dates.

'Surely, it's just because all the girls have seen you before on Tinder, and automatically swiped left the second time around!', some will say. That's possible, but again I changed all my pictures, and....

I was on vacation for a couple months in a populated city in a different state. Same idea - two profiles, one with "here to fuck" guy, the other with "beta bux" guy. Same results - I only got high matches with the "here to fuck" guy.

Lessons

  • Girls spew their bullshit - Shirtless selfies are gross...no hookups...looking for long-term, but it's all bullshit.
  • Stick to what works - show off your fucking muscles.
  • Don't come off as beta
  • Be "here to fuck" guy

Edit: shirtless selfie was my second pic, age range 21-42
